Hedge fund SPX appoints ex-Goldman trader to head up new Singapore office

Brazilian hedge fund manager SPX Capital has appointed William Bethlem, a former trader with Goldman Sachs Group, to head up its new Singapore office as part of the firm’s push into Asia, according to a report by Bloomberg.

The report cites SPX Capital co-founder Bruno Pandolfi as confirming that Bethlem, who joined SPX last year, will lead the new office which is due to open in February. An exact headcount of for the new offices initial team of Asia-focused researchers and traders has yet to be confirmed.

The move into Singapore is the latest initiative in SPX’s drive to internationalise the business with the firm’s founding partners Pandolfi, plus Rogerio Xavier, Daniel Schneider – having first moved to London in 2016, with the firm subsequently establishing offices in New York and Cascais, Portugal. 

About a quarter of the firm’s $15.8 billion assets already come from non-Brazilian investors with its macro fund having bettered all local competitors YTD with a 49% return after fees. SPC Capital firm currently employs 250 people.
