The Managed Funds Association, a US-based trade association for the alternative investment industry, has announced the appointment of D. Brooke Harlow as executive vice-president and managing director for marketing and communications.

Harlow becomes responsible for the strategy and implementation of the association’s global business development and marketing initiatives, as well as communications and media outreach to policy makers, members and the global alternative investment industry.

She was previously managing director of communications and public affairs at Highbridge Capital Management, a New York-based hedge fund manager owned by JP Morgan.

Harlow will work directly with Baker to develop and coordinate MFA’s business development and communications priorities and initiatives.

As managing director of communications and public affairs at Highbridge Capital Management, Harlow was responsible for the corporate communications, marketing, branding and public affairs operations at the firm and served as its spokesperson.

Prior to joining Highbridge, Harlow was a vice president of investment bank marketing and communications at JP Morgan for six years. While at JP Morgan, she managed the media relations for the global credit, emerging markets and private equity businesses at the bank. She also served as head of marketing and communications for Latin America and as a member of the Latin American Investment Bank management committee.

Previously, Harlow managed media relations and marketing for StarMedia Network, a portfolio company of JP Morgan Chase’s private equity unit. Before joining StarMedia, she was a senior associate at Burson-Marsteller in Washington, DC.
