The March Vini Catena Fund, managed by March Gestión, the boutique asset manager of Banca March, has achieved a 22.6% return during its first 12 months of trading, beating its reference index MSCI World LC, which returned 7.8% over the same period. In terms of volatility the fund shows 8.5%, well below the index’s 15%.

March Vini Catena is the first global equity fund to invest in a selection of notable companies linked to the production and sales of quality wine with the aim of capitalising on the opportunities they offer. The product seeks to benefit from what the managers at March Gestión see as a favourable trend in this sector despite the current uncertainties in financial markets. The fund has an “Investment Advisory Board” where four prestigious men from the wine sector provide their expertise to the fund managers.

The fund is headed up by two managers with proven experience: Javier Pérez and José Antonio Méndez. Companies in its portfolio include Constellation Brands, Diageo, Baron de Ley, Hawesko Holding and Potash Corporation among others. Due to the high worldwide demand of quality wine, the expectations for 2011 are very positive.

“Vini Catena FI is an innovative product designed to leverage the growing global demand for quality wine," says José Luis Jiménez, CEO of March Gestión. "At the same time, its technical characteristics as an asset class make it very attractive to any investor with a medium-term horizon.”

March Gestión has recently launched a Luxembourg version of March Vini Catena for global distribution (retail and institutional), which is investable directly or through various third party distribution platforms.
