Jivko Jekov, a senior energy trader at Millennium Management, has departed the hedge fund three years after joining to build its energy trading team, according to a report by Bloomberg citing unnamed sources familiar with the matter.
Jekov was hired in 2022 as a Senior Portfolio Manager, during a period of heightened energy market volatility following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. By late 2023, he had established a team in Zug, Switzerland, trading European natural gas, power, and US gas futures.
Guennadi Andrianov, whom Jekov had brought on as a gas trader, has also left the firm, the sources added.
The exits come amid a decline in energy market volatility, which has weighed on profits for funds with bullish positions in European gas.
