River and Mercantile Group PLC has appointed James Barham as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) effective Monday 1 July, in line with the Group’s established succession plan.
Barham, currently Deputy CEO, will take on the position from Mike Faulkner, who has decided to focus on the management and development of the Group’s range of macro strategies. Faulkner will remain on the Board as an Executive Director and become the Group’s Head of Macro Strategies and Innovation.

Yotta Connect, a provider of technology solutions and services to the alternative asset management industry, has appointed Andrew Rosson as Chief Technology Officer (CTO).
Partnering with Nick Monos, CEO, and Ravi Atluri, CCO, Rosson will be responsible for building and managing the firm’s growing CTO Consulting Services practice. Rosson recently left the long/short equity firm, Stelliam Investment Management, where he had served as Chief Technology Officer and Chief Administrative Officer since 2013. CAIS, a financial technology platform connecting financial advisors with alternative investments, is partnering with Private Client Resources (PCR) to streamline the delivery of analytics-ready data for independent financial advisors and fund managers.

The Eurekahedge Hedge Fund Index was down 0.71 per cent in May, bringing its year-to-date return to 4.32 per cent. Roughly 15.0 per cent of the hedge fund managers comprising the index have recorded double-digit gains over the first five months of the year.
The global hedge fund industry AUM has grown by USD0.5 billion as of May 2019 year-to-date. Final Q1 2019 net outflows figure stood at USD46.4 billion, just under half of the investor redemptions totalling USD94.7 billion seen in the final quarter of 2018.

Nomura Alternative Investment Management (NAIM), a London and Paris-based quantitative investment manager within Nomura Group has launched the Nomura Diversified Absolute Return UCITS Fund.
The Fund aims to deliver absolute returns with a low volatility profile (close to 3 per cent pa), low correlation to traditional asset classes and low drawdowns. It will aim to achieve its objective by capturing a diversified portfolio of risk premia across fixed income and currency markets through a strategic allocation using systematic quantitative strategies.

PEGAS, the pan-European gas trading platform of EEX Group, operated by Powernext, has introduced spot and futures contracts for the Spanish Virtual Balancing Point (PVB).
Physical spot products (Within-Ahead, Day-Ahead and Week-End contracts) and physically delivered futures contracts (Month, Quarter, Season and Calendar Year products) are now available for trading and will lead to the delivery of natural gas at the PVB hub, which is operated by ENAGAS. All transactions are cleared through European Commodity Clearing, the central clearing house of the EEX Group.

Sterling Trading Tech (STT) has appointed Erik Schmidt – an industry veteran with two decades of experience in capital markets – as Managing Director of Client Services.
Schmidt’s career began on the trading floors of Chicago, which led him to Europe and Asia where he opened and managed trading offices to run international portfolios.
Schmidt has previously served in management positions successfully at firms such as Gelber Group, Deutsche Bank AG and Mako Global Derivatives. His global management expertise includes leading client services teams, trading operations, risk and portfolio management. His deep market knowledge and passion for client services
