Following on from an improvement in February, all Societe Generale CTA indices posted positive performance in March, bringing the CTA Index and Trend Index back on track for 2019 year to date.  In fact, it has been the best month for CTAs since the beginning of last year, in terms of returns. The European Energy Exchange (EEX) will expand its product range on the derivatives market on 3 June with new power futures, freight futures and options as well as further maturities in emissions options.  Clearing and settlement of the new products and maturities will be carried out by European Commodity Clearing (ECC). The listing of the new power futures extends the pan-European offering of EEX to the emerging power markets in Central and South Eastern Europe, thereby extending its range to 20 market areas throughout Europe. The Association of National Numbering Agencies (ANNA) and the Global Legal Entity Identifier Foundation (GLEIF) have set 4 April 2019 as the ‘go-live’ date for a new initiative to start linking International Securities Identification Numbers (ISINs) and Legal Entity Identifiers (LEIs) for the global financial industry.  The initiative has been created to help improve transparency of exposure by linking the legal issuing entity (Issuer) to their issuance of securities, and to also address some of the regulatory requirements under the Prospective Directive, the CSDR and SFTR. Hedge funds established in 2018 undertook concerted efforts to launch their enterprises on a stable foundation, including raising minimum investment levels significantly over prior years, according to The Seward & Kissel 2018 New Hedge Fund Study, an annual analysis of new hedge funds performed by the leading law firm to the hedge fund industry.  In 2018, higher asset levels were sought in order to manage increasing costs and better attract institutional capital.
