Managed futures lost 0.78 per cent in March, according to the Barclay CTA Index compiled by BarclayHedge.
The index is down 0.77 per cent in 2014.
“Trendless zigzagging equity markets, volatile commodity markets, and a bond market sell-off all contributed to poor performance in March," says Sol Waksman, founder and president of BarclayHedge.
Five of Barclay’s eight CTA indices had losses in March. The Barclay Diversified Traders Index was down 1.20 per cent, Financial & Metals Traders lost 0.85 per cent, and Systematic Traders also gave up 0.85 per cent.

The move will bring together all of NASDAQ OMX’s 150+ employees in London, following the 2013 acquisitions of Thomson Reuters’ investor relations, public relations and multimedia solutions businesses and eSpeed, and the launch of the NLX derivatives market.
London as a global financial hub is a key market for NASDAQ OMX, which is a provider of trading, exchange technology, information and public company services.

Private financial cloud provider Options has implemented a series of upgrades and expansions to its managed server hosting and connectivity in Carteret, New Jersey.
The announcement comes ahead of this month’s eSpeed migration to the main Nasdaq data centre in Carteret, which follows the stock exchange’s July 2013 acquisition of the US Treasuries-trading platform.
The migration will see eSpeed move from the market’s current location in Rochelle Park, New Jersey and is planned for 7 April.

The Salus Alpha diversified CTA strategy "Directional Markets" (DMXUSD) delivered +4.12 per cent in March 2014, according to the db select Manager Performance Flash Report – March 2014.
This led to it being ranked first YTD 2014 and third trailing 12 month return of established managers on DB Select Platform, outperforming the world's biggest CTA managers.
The average trailing 12 month volatility is 11.47 per cent.
Salus Alpha Capital expects the strong performance to continue. YTD performance has reached 12 per cent by mid-April.
Salus Alpha remains highly uncorrelated to other CTAs.

“Global equity markets experienced their version of March Madness as fears of Russian expansionism, Fed tightening, and slowing growth in China spiked intra-month volatility,” says Sol Waksman, founder and president of BarclayHedge.
The Equity Short Bias Index fell 2.47 per cent in March, the Technology Index lost 2.34 per cent, Healthcare & Biotechnology gave up 1.29 per cent, Global Macro was down 0.92 per cent, and European Equities lost 0.90 per cent.
FRMO Corp has purchased a 37.57 per cent stake in the Bermuda Stock Exchange (BSX) and is now the exchange’s largest shareholder.
Murray Stahl, chairman of FRMO, will be joining the BSX board of directors (Council).
Stahl is also chairman of Horizon Asset Management, a registered investment adviser.
A private equity fund managed by Horizon Asset Management invested in the BSX in 2008 and currently holds 2.21 per cent of the BSX's shares.

PGGM Vermogensbeheer has appointed Citi as the depository bank for its range of alternative investment funds.
The appointment extends the existing long-standing relationship between the two.
Citi established its depositary facility in the Netherlands in July 2013 following the implementation of the Alternative Investment Fund Managers Directive (AIFMD). The bank is now able to support locally-domiciled funds with independent depositary capabilities, including oversight of funds’ service providers, safekeeping of funds’ assets and daily automated monitoring of funds’ investment guidelines and regulatory restrictions.

The European Parliament voted to adopt the UCITS V Directive on 15 April 2014, settling any fears and uncertainties that political disagreement over the scope of the remuneration rules might scupper its approval.
UCITS V will come into closer alignment with the Alternative Investment Managers Directive (AIFMD), which was transposed into EU law last July to regulate the activities of European alternative fund managers. Michel Barnier, Internal Market and Services Commissioner of the European Commission, has emphasized the need to maintain the UCITS framework as a “gold standard for fund regulation globally”.
