Four of the seven IndexIQ Investable Hedge Fund Performance Indices – a proprietary family of hedge fund replication and alternative beta indices – recorded positive performance in April.
The IQ Hedge Fixed Income Arbitrage Beta Index led the way with a return of 0.80 per cent, followed by the IQ Hedge Market Neutral Beta Index (0.42 per cent), the IQ Hedge Event-Driven Beta Index (0.26 per cent) and the IQ Hedge Composite Beta Index (0.17 per cent).

The Market Vectors Hedge Fund Beta Indices experienced mixed results in April with two of the six indices seeing positive returns, one remaining flat and the other three ending the month in negative territory.
The MV Western Europe L/S Equity Hedge Fund Beta Index was the top performer with a return of 1.20 per cent while the MV Global L/S Equity Hedge Fund Beta Index returned 0.35 per cent and the MV Asia (Developed) L/S Equity Hedge Fund Beta Index remained static.

The European Energy Exchange (EEX) is to start an initiative to relaunch its coal market.
The initiative will focus on Trade Registration which means the registration of OTC trades for clearing.
EEX has attracted several well-known brokers that support the Trade Registration offer.

The global investment team of Centaurus Capital, led by chief investment officer Randy Freeman, is to join the Fortress Investment Group’s liquid markets business.
The team, which will be rebranded as the Fortress-Centaurus Global Strategy, will operate out of Fortress’s offices in Hong Kong, London and New York, and will immediately transition to Fortress’s technology, infrastructure and marketing platforms.
The addition will further diversify Fortress’s liquid markets business, adding a seasoned team with 20 years of experience in the fast growing global equity long-short and event-driven space.

In April the international derivatives exchanges of Eurex Group recorded an average daily volume of 8.7 million contracts, down from 9.8 million contracts in April 2013.
Of those, 6.1 million were Eurex Exchange contracts (April 2013: 7.1 million), and 2.6 million contracts (April 2013: 2.7 million) were traded at the US-based International Securities Exchange (ISE).
In total, 177.2 million contracts were traded, thereof 122.2 million at Eurex Exchange and 54.9 million at the ISE.
