Having maintained world growth at acceptable levels throughout the current crisis, emerging Asia will become the world’s primary weak spot in 2014, says Saxo Bank, the online multi-asset trading and investment specialist.
According to the firm’s first quarterly insight for 2014, investment in that region has reached a staggering 43 per cent of GDP while growth has fallen to barely six per cent; the easy part of the growth cycle is long gone, and some emerging market governments are now proactively trying to slow their economies down.
This is not necessarily a bad thing for Asia, which needs to
Hedge funds in the US, UK and Singapore have signed agreements with Aztec Exchange to purchase invoices from suppliers in emerging markets and credit-constrained developed markets.
Through the agreement, these funds will buy the receivables from a variety of regions with short-term maturities (45-90 days), with average annualised yields around 20 per cent.
“Trade receivables are a unique investment proposition for fund managers as they can offer superior yields over other short-maturity assets. More importantly, our platform facilitates a ‘true sale’ of the invoices, which means the credit exposure is not with the supplier in the emerging market but

A key investment theme of 2014 is expected to be politics, as elections could affect policies in several emerging markets, according to the BNY Mellon Global Market Outlook…
The outlook is the annual look ahead from BNY Mellon Investment Management and features views from across the firm’s global investment affiliates.
“While our investment boutiques have their distinct views on markets and investing, a common theme from many is that potential opportunities lie amid the political uncertainty likely to characterise 2014,” says Curtis Arledge, chief executive officer of BNY Mellon Investment Management. “In addition to questions about Fed policy in
Clearstream is to extend the range of securities eligible for settlement in the future pan-European settlement platform TARGET2-Securities (T2S) by leveraging the network of cross-border links to non T2S markets of its international central securities depository (ICSD).
As such, Clearstream will make its ICSD-issued securities (i.e. Eurobonds) and also securities issued outside Europe available via T2S, which represents a significant expansion of scope compared to the original universe of the T2S project.
Clearstream’s decision will therefore further contribute to the harmonisation of cross-border flows in Europe and beyond.
T2S is the future pan-European settlement platform that the European
Women-owned or managed hedge funds and private equity funds continue to outperform their male counterparts, but 73.5 per cent of investors anticipate that allocations will remain the same in 2014.
That is one of the findings of Women in Alternative Investments: A Marathon, Not a Sprint – Rothstein Kass’s third annual report examining the performance, prospects and outlook of women in the alternative investment industry.
The report includes a survey of 440 senior women in the alternative investment industry, including fund managers, investors and service providers, as well as proprietary performance analysis of women-owned or managed private equity and
New regulations will drive trading activity in foreign exchange away from options and non-deliverable forwards (NDFs) to futures, which will become a much bigger and more important part of the FX market.
In a report, The Futurization of FX Derivatives, Greenwich Associates says the movement of trading activity to futures will require investors to rethink how they access the FX market, dealers to revamp business models to facilitate trading in a profitable way, and technology providers to offer solutions to help all market participants adapt and succeed in the new market.
