Fidelity Institutional has launched a new solution for accessing alternative investments. Fidelity’s platform will provide research, education and third-party due diligence, as well as access to a wide range of alternative investment products for all Fidelity Institutional clients.   Financial advisors and family office professionals will now have access to a variety of alternative investment products, including hedge funds, private equity funds and ’40 Act mutual funds.   Fidelity’s platform will also provide access to research and third-party due diligence reports through strategic alliances with leaders in the space – including CAIS, Goldman Sachs Asset Management (GSAM) and Morningstar.  
The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has sanctioned three investment advisory firms for violating the “custody rule” that requires them to meet certain standards when maintaining custody of client funds or securities. The majority of investment advisers do not maintain custody of client assets, which are instead held by qualified third-party custodians like a bank or broker-dealer.  Investment advisers must comply with the custody rule if they have legal ownership or access to client assets or an arrangement permitting them to withdraw client assets.    The Commission amended the custody rule in 2010 to strengthen investor protections by requiring all

Singapore Exchange (SGX) is introducing Asian foreign exchange (FX) futures for deliverable and non-deliverable Asian currencies from 11 November 2013. Futures contracts for six currency pairs, AUD/USD, AUD/JPY, USD/SGD, INR/USD, KRW/USD and KRW/JPY, will be launched initially.   SGX’s introduction of Asian FX futures is in line with global G20 regulatory reforms where all standardised OTC derivative contracts should be traded on exchanges or electronic trading platforms, where appropriate, and cleared through central counterparties. The International Swaps and Derivatives Association (ISDA), the British Bankers Association (BBA), the Investment Management Association (IMA) and Markit have launched the EMIR Counterparty Classification Tool on ISDA Amend.
