The European Securities and Markets Authority has published a review of Greek government bonds accounting practices in the IFRS financial statements for the year ended 31 December 2011. It sets out the results of the review conducted by ESMA on accounting practices and disclosures regarding exposure to Greek government bonds.   The ESMA review considered a sample of 42 European financial institutions, each with significant exposure to Greek government bonds totalling an estimated gross exposure of around EUR80bn.   The review found a good level of consistency regarding the level of impairment losses, showing an improvement compared to June 2011

New Forests has introduced new investors to make an investment in the Green Triangle Forest Trust (GTFT). GTFT was established in March 2012 via the acquisition of the plantation assets of Auspine Ltd by New Forests Australia New Zealand Forest Fund and a co-investor.  The USD80m transaction will be used to reduce debt and redeem units owned by Gunns Ltd. The Commodity Futures Trading Commission has proposed new rules to require certain credit default swaps and interest rate swaps to be cleared by registered derivatives clearing organisations (DCOs). The proposed rule is the first clearing determination by the Commission under the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act. Under the proposed rules, market participants would be required to submit a swap that is identified in the rule for clearing by a DCO as soon as technologically practicable and no later than the end of the day of execution. The US District Court for the Middle District of Florida has frozen the assets of defendants Philip Leon of Altamonte Springs, Florida, Paul Rangel of Apopka, Florida, John Wilkins of Chuluota, Florida, and their company, Altamont Global Partners of Longwood, Florida. The US Commodity Futures Trading Commission has filed a notice of intent to revoke the registrations of Brian Kim and Liquid Capital Management (LCM). LCM is a registered commodity pool operator and commodity trading advisor. Kim is registered as an associated person of LCM and is the sole principal of LCM.
