LandAndBuildings, a property long/short equity fund, has hired two new investment professionals – David Kruth and Corey Lorinsky. Kruth has joined the firm as Principal and Co-Portfolio Manager focusing on international property. Previously, he was Vice President and Co-Portfolio Manager of the USD2.5 billion Global Real Estate Securities Funds at Goldman Sachs Asset Management where he oversaw global investment for five years. David also spent eight years as Portfolio Manager and Senior Analyst at both Citigroup Property Investors and Alliance Capital Management where he invested in REITs and other public real estate related companies in the U.S. and internationally.

MF Global Holdings Ltd. (NYSE: MF), a broker-dealer providing trading and hedging solutions, has announced the pricing of an underwritten public offering of USD325 million aggregate principal amount of 3.375% Convertible Senior Notes due 1 August, 2018. MF Global also granted the underwriters a 30-day option to purchase up to an additional USD45 million aggregate principal amount of convertible notes. The offering is expected to close on 2 August, 2011, subject to customary closing conditions. The convertible notes will be the senior, unsecured obligations of MF Global Holdings Ltd. and will bear interest at a rate of 3.375% per annum,
Buried in the recent consultation paper on the Alternative Investment Fund Managers Directive (AIFMD) are stringent rules on pay that will have far reaching consequences for the asset management industry, say experts at PwC.   The rules, from the European Securities and Markets Authority, will affect alternative investment firms which escaped the FSA’s regulations on bank pay, including many private equity houses and hedge funds. They will also mean more onerous restrictions for those investment firms already caught by the FSA requirements, and could even hit some firms outside Europe.

Barclays Capital, publisher of leading broad market bond benchmarks, has launched the Barclays Capital Fiscal Strength Weighted Bond Index family, a new suite of benchmark indices that uses fundamental measures of fiscal sustainability to adjust country weights within existing government bond indices. Hedge funds choosing to become family offices, thereby closing themselves off to outside investors, has been strong this week.
Dutch hedge funds on average lost -2,15% in June, as measured by the Finles/IEX Dutch hedge fund index.
