Bandon Capital Management has launched the Bandon Isolated Alpha Fixed Income Fund (BANIX), a global absolute return-oriented fixed income strategy. The fund, sub-advised by two highly regarded institutional specialist investment managers, is intended to be an “all season” strategy for investors seeking consistent returns through all market environments.
In the pursuit of its objectives the fund has the flexibility to invest in an unconstrained fashion across global fixed income securities and sectors including strategies that go both long and short in an attempt to capitalise on market opportunities in both directions.
The philosophy underlying the strategy is to incorporate
Skandia Investment Group (SIG) CIO James Millard explains that, despite the earthquake in Japan and rising oil prices, the company remains bullish on global equites…
We remain overweight global equities. The February Purchasing Managers’ Indices (PMIs) were very strong, suggesting that the global economy was growing very strongly in 2011 Q1. However, the earthquake in Japan and the rise in the oil price could turn what would have been a ‘great’ year for global growth into a ‘good’ one.
We think that the global equity rally that began in 2009 will continue, supported by the ongoing economic recovery, favourable

VII Peaks Capital has partnered with KBR to form VII Peaks-KBR an investment platform featuring investment programs utilising the VII Peaks Capital Co-Optivist approach.
The Co-Optivist approach is a proprietary strategy developed by VII Peaks Capital to acquire discounted corporate debt securities of public companies that have a perceived risk of near term liquidity issues, but that also have solid fundamentals and business prospects, including historical revenue growth, positive cash flow and sufficient asset coverage. The VII Peaks Capital Co-Optivist approach includes proactively engaging the target company’s management in order to restructure the underlying corporate debt securities and de-lever the
New compliance requirements arise in November this year for many UK finance industry firms, including hedge fund managers, dealers, traders, stockbrokers and some financial advisers. For the first time, it will be mandatory to record mobile telephone conversations, in a bid by the Financial Services Authority (FSA) to crack down on market abuse.
Some firms had hoped that simply prohibiting employees from using their mobile phones for business-related calls would avoid the need to implement mobile call recording solutions, but at a seminar hosted by Voxsmart, in conjunction with Actiance, this approach was rejected by the FSA representative as insufficient
The hedge fund industry raked in USD34.9 billion (2.0% of assets) in February 2011, the heaviest inflow on record, according to BarclayHedge and TrimTabs Investment Research. Industry assets stand at USD1.73 trillion, the highest level since October 2008.
“Flows are doubtless following performance,” explains Sol Waksman, founder and President of BarclayHedge. “The Barclay Hedge Fund Index posted an increase in each of the past seven months, and it didn’t hurt that February is historically the best month of the year for new hedge fund subscriptions. Meanwhile, public pension plans — many of which are underfunded — are devoting much more capital
Following a statement from PDL International’s Sven Kuhlbrodt, in favour of alternative asset investment, Alternative Asset Analysis (AAA) partner, Anthony Johnson, has added his support for this investment approach.

"I strongly agree with Sven Kuhlbrodt’s comments about diversifying a portfolio to minimise risk," says Johnson. "He pointed out that as well as diversifying a portfolio, investing in alternative assets, such as forestry – which do not typically follow the performance of traditional financial markets – is a sensible additional strategy during these particularly volatile times."

Both Kuhlbrodt and Johnson believe that the recent political turmoil in the Middle East and
Hedge fund flows as measured by the GlobeOp Capital Movement Index were negative 0.05% in April, and the GlobeOp Forward Redemption Indicator declined slightly to 3.26% during the month of March.
“Investor sentiment remained calm during the reporting period, despite events in Japan and in the Middle East,” says Hans Hufschmid, chief executive officer, GlobeOp Financial Services.
The GlobeOp Capital Movement Index represents the monthly net of subscriptions to and redemptions from hedge funds administered by GlobeOp, divided by the total assets under administration (AuA) for GlobeOp’s fund administration clients. Redemptions were slightly greater than subscriptions for the month of
