Investment performance was the major source of asset growth for Man Group in the last quarter, with AHL, GLG and the Man Multi-Manager all making positive contributions. AHL Diversified plc was up 5.3% in the three months to 31 December 2010, to give a calendar year return of 14.8%. AHL was 3.7% below peak on a weighted average basis at 31 December, with 75% of FUM at or within 5% of peak. Metals and commodity-based currencies were the most profitable positions in the quarter. Strategies contributing positively to performance over the month were the dbX-THF Equity Hedge, dbX-THF Event Driven, dbX-THF Systematic Macro, dbX-THF Global Macro and the dbX-THF Credit & Convertible indices. The worst performing strategy for the month was dbX-THF Equity Market Neutral Index. The hedge fund industry concluded 2010 with the largest quarterly increase in assets in the history, according to data released today by Hedge Fund Research (HFR).   Total industry assets grew to USD1.917 trillion, reflecting a quarterly increase of nearly USD149 billion, topping the previous record increase of USD140 billion in 2Q07. Credit hedge fund manager Daniel Posner is jointing Golub Capital, a USD4.5 billion credit asset management firm with a long history in middle-market direct lending, to develop and lead new credit strategies later this year.
