Vermillion Asset Management, a New York City-based commodities-focused asset management firm, has appointed Cecile Mattei as director, business development and investor relations.
Mattei joins a four person business development and investor relations team supporting both alpha and beta strategies in commodities.
“We are confident that Cecile will greatly enhance our efforts as we continue to strengthen and diversify our investor base,” says Drew Gilbert, co-managing partner of Vermillion. “We have enjoyed strong growth and continue to see demand as investors seek out and increase their exposure to commodities.”

On 7 October the Russian delegation led by President Medvedev signed with their respective Cyprus counterparts a protocol to the Russia-Cyprus double tax treaty.
The protocol amends the existing treaty which entered into force on 1 January 1998.

Kleinwort Benson Bank has appointed Sally Tennant as chief executive, effective from mid-January 2011 subject to regulatory approval.
Tennant joins from Lombard Odier Darier Hentsch, the Swiss private bank, where she was chief executive of its London-based private banking operation.
Tennant replaces Robert Taylor, who joined Kleinwort Benson as chief executive in 2004.

Lombard Odier Investment Managers has strengthened its hedge fund resources with the appointment of Marc Bataillon and his team from Selectium Europe.
Bataillon will lead European equities from London reporting to Aziz Nahas, chief investment officer for equities at Lombard Odier Investment Managers.
Bataillon brings over 20 years of business expertise and seven years in managing long/short Western European equities.

Standard & Poor’s Global Nuclear Energy Index recorded a total return of 13.88 per cent in the third quarter, outperforming the S&P 500 which returned 11.29 per cent.
The index comprises 24 of the largest publicly traded companies in nuclear energy related businesses that meet investability requirements, thus providing liquid exposure to the global nuclear energy business.
The ten largest companies by market cap in the index are AMEC, McDermott International, Cameco, Tokyo Electric Power, JGC, Iberdrola, Exelon, E.ON, Shaw Group and NextEra Energy.

Alternative investment firm Permal Group has appointed Marilyn Schaja, formerly at Ivy Asset Management, to the Permal Americas sales team as senior vice president and head of US distribution channels.
Schaja, who started on 4 October, reports to Joshua Levine, head of institutional markets at Permal.
This is a new role at Permal, covering not only regional distribution, but also development of new products for the US onshore market.
Before Permal, Schaja spent nine years at Ivy where she was director of client development, managing high net worth channel client relationships.

Arwel Lewis and Thomas Granger have both been promoted to partners in Walkers’ investment funds group.
Lewis joined Walkers in January 2007, specialising in corporate work with an emphasis on private equity and investment funds. Having originally trained with Linklaters, Lewis moved to Hong Kong in 2002. His experience includes advising investment banks, financial institutions, investment managers and private equity houses on downstream private equity investments, private equity fund formation, as well as all aspects of Cayman Islands and BVI hedge fund structures.

David Gorton and Brevan Howard have formed a joint venture, DG Systematic Trading, to pursue systematic trading strategies.
Gorton is the chief investment officer of the new venture with responsibility for the management and development of trading strategies based upon a suite of systematic models which have been running capital since May 2006 including capital allocated from Brevan Howard Master Fund since 1 March 2010.
DG Systematic Trading will be FSA authorised and will act as investment manager of Brevan Howard Systematic Trading Fund, a systematic trading fund which uses Brevan Howard’s risk management and execution platform.

Arnaud Apffel has joined Deutsche Bank Private Wealth Management as managing director, head of global investment solutions for Europe, Middle East and Africa.
Apffel will oversee all global investment solutions activities across all asset classes for EMEA.
Based in Geneva, Apffel reports jointly to Marco Bizzozero, head of private wealth management EMEA and chief executive Deutsche Bank (Switzerland), and Kevin Lecocq, head of global investment solutions for Deutsche Bank Private Wealth Management.
