Value Partners Group Limited has appointed Samuel Sun as managing director, chief risk officer, effective 30 May 2022. He is based in the firm’s Hong Kong headquarters. A seasoned industry executive with over 25 years of experience in risk management, Sun is responsible for managing and overseeing the overall risk management function across the Group’s Hong Kong headquarters and overseas offices. He will also provide leadership in enterprise risk management of the Group. Sun reports to the Group’s President, June Wong. He replaces David Wong, who stepped down to retire in late March 2022.   Sun joins Value Partners from
Monex Europe, a European corporate FX and hedging provider, has strengthened its leadership team with the appointments of Tom Farrow, group director of trading and William Crossley, group sales director to the firm’s board of directors. They will report into Nick Edgeley, chief executive officer at Monex Europe. FX industry front runners with over 25 years’ experience between them, Farrow and Crossley have been instrumental to Monex Europe’s growth and development, with the firm significantly enhancing its offering and expanding its global footprint into Luxembourg, Spain, the Netherlands, Canada and Singapore since they joined in 2008 and 2010 respectively.
Carey Olsen and Oakbridge Fund Services (Oakbridge) have advised the regulated Singapore investment manager Phillip Street Partners on the launch of PSP Digital Macro Fund Limited (the fund). The fund’s aim is to deliver uncorrelated absolute returns across multiple asset classes, including digital assets. It is structured as a Jersey limited company and established as a Jersey Private Fund, with the potential to upgrade to a Jersey Expert Fund in the future. The Oakbridge team is acting as designated service provider and in doing so provides administration and compliance services to the Fund. 
Bitfinex Derivatives, a derivatives platform accessible through digital token trading platform Bitfinex, has launched of perpetual contracts for Maker and Sandbox. MKRF0:USTF0 and SANDF0:USTF0 will go live on 30 May at 12.00pm CET and will offer users up to 100x leverage and will be settled in tether tokens (USDt).  Bitfinex Derivatives platform and products are only available in eligible jurisdictions, and are exclusive to verified users.

The Managed Funds Association (MFA), the trade association for the alternative asset management investment industry, today submitted a comment letter to the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) in response to its proposed rule to redefine and expand the definitions of “dealer” and “government securities dealer.”
Hedge fund managers are adopting a different approach to asset managers when it comes to trading US treasuries, according to a report by Bloomberg. The report says the former are doubling down on bearish bets just as traditional money managers adopt a more positive stance that may suggest they feel the global stock sell-off is winding down. While data from the CFTC last week revealed that leveraged funds increased their short positions on US sovereign debt to the highest level since October 2020, pension pension funds, insurers and mutual funds have boosted long positions to the highest level since April 2020.

Hong Kong stocks are back in favour with JP Morgan Chase & Co’s hedge fund clients, according to a report by Bloomberg, with the Wall Street Bank having revealed in a note this week that hedge funds are buying again after a sell-off lasting over a year. The report also says that JP Morgan has reported a stabilisation of flows in mainland China too, with stock purchases to cover short positions being offset by fall in ‘bullish wagers in the east few weeks’.
