Harmonic Capital has appointed Robert B Fitzpatrick as managing director of North American distribution.
Harmonic Capital, based in Massachusetts, is a recently established US affiliate of Harmonic Capital Partners, a UK-based quantitative hedge fund manager providing global macro and currency products to institutional investors.
Fitzpatrick will be responsible for leading the development of Harmonic’s institutional business in the region, with a particular focus on public and corporate pension plans. Bringing more than 20 years’ financial services experience, Fitzpatrick joins from First Quadrant where he held the role of director, global consultant relations and business development. GAIN Capital, a provider of online trading services, has appointed Jason Emerson as its chief financial officer effective 1 October 2013.
“Jason is an accomplished executive who brings the right mix of strategic insight, industry experience, and financial acumen to the CFO position,” says Glenn Stevens, chief executive of GAIN Capital. “I am confident Jason will be an excellent addition to GAIN’s leadership team.”
Emerson was most recently managing director and business manager of KCG’s global execution services division, responsible for all financial and operational aspects of the business. Previously, he served as KCG’s director of financial operations.
BlueBay Asset Management, a manager of fixed income and alternative investments, has appointed Richard Blake as director, sales – alternatives with immediate effect.
Based in London, Blake will focus on building BlueBay’s alternative business.
Blake joins BlueBay from Moore Capital Management where he was head of investor relations Europe taking responsibility for the sales and IR effort in Europe and the Middle East for Moore’s two flagship global macro funds. Hedge fund attorney Lindi Beaudreault has joined Murphy & McGonigle as a partner in its New York office.
Beaudreault (pictured) joins Murphy & McGonigle from Shearman & Sterling, where her practice focused on enforcement defense and regulatory counseling of financial services firms, principally hedge funds.
Beaudreault also has significant broker-dealer experience. She formerly served as director of global regulatory affairs at Merrill Lynch and as director and assistant general counsel at Bank of America, where she defended SEC, FINRA, Congressional and New York Attorney General investigations and proceedings and high risk regulatory examinations.

Alternative investments provider Altegris has made a number of additions to its sales and legal teams to support its expansion.
Since Altegris launched one of the first actively managed, managed futures mutual funds in 2010, the firm has experienced significant growth both in assets and in adoption by financial intermediaries.
Natalie Maniaci has joined Altegris as the firm’s senior counsel and advisory chief compliance officer. Les Carrington comes to Altegris as the new internal sales desk manager after holding that same position for the last five of her 13 years with LPL.

Evanston Capital Management, an institutional hedge fund of funds manager, has appointed Peter Hecht as vice president, senior investment strategist, effective 3 September 2013.
In this newly created role, Hecht will lead ECM’s efforts to produce topical investment research and will work collaboratively with ECM’s investors and their advisers to provide insight about how they can structure their portfolios to best meet their goals and objectives.

Misys has appointed Frank Brienzi as its new president and chief sales officer.
Brienzi (pictured) is responsible for the entire Go-to-Market organisation at Misys, including sales, pre-sales, account management, and marketing. He has been tasked with extending the sales footprint of the company and building further on the 31 per cent software revenue growth achieved last year.

Global Prime Partners (GPP), the prime brokerage boutique, has further built out its sales team in Europe just weeks after expanding its client service capabilities into the Asian markets.
GPP has hired Colin Bridges who joined the firm on 1 September from BNP Paribas in London. Bridges will work closely with Kevin LoPrimo, head of hedge fund services at GPP, to develop and to support the firm’s rapidly growing list of prime brokerage clients across Europe.

KPMG has hired 30-year industry veteran Michael Cross as director of account relationships as the firm continues to expand its alternative investments (AI) team serving the Southeast US.
Cross, who has and continues to hold leadership roles with hedge fund and alternative investment associations throughout the Southeast, is responsible for managing client relationships and developing new business with hedge funds, private equity firms and real estate funds.

Derivatives lawyer Robert Scherer has joined Vinson & Elkins’ finance practice group as counsel in New York.
Scherer (pictured), who joins V&E from Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft, focuses his practice on the representation of banks, dealers and other market participants in connection with the development, structuring, negotiation and documentation of a variety of financial products, including fixed income derivatives, credit derivatives and structured financial products.
