The Alternative Investment Management Association, the global hedge fund industry association, has formed a new AIMA Council, its board of directors.
The new non-executive chairman was named by AIMA last week as the former US Securities and Exchange Commissioner Kathleen Casey (pictured). She replaces outgoing AIMA non-executive chairman Todd Groome, who had been in the role since 2009.
Casey is joined on the new AIMA Council by Olwyn Alexander, partner, PwC; Mark O’Sullivan, partner, Ernst & Young; Phil Schmitt, president, Summerwood Capital; and Henry Smith, global managing partner, Maples and Calder.

OVS Capital, the European equity focused event driven investment manager, has added two new members to its business team.
Robert Moore joins OVS to manage treasury and finance. Moore previously spent over 14 years at GLG Partners as a manager on the equity finance team where his responsibilities included evaluating counterparty risk, reducing financing costs, foreign exchange execution and stock loan. In his role at OVS he will be focused on counterparty exposure, monitoring financing costs and cash management.
Yvonne Daffy joins OVS as a fund accountant. Between 2010 and 2012, Daffy worked at Morgan Stanley Fund Services as
Palmer Square Capital Management, an investment management firm that provides portfolios of hedge fund strategies, has appointed Emily Colella as a managing director responsible for business development.
Colella’s primary focus will be on expanding Palmer Square’s presence within the institutional channel. She will also play a key role in guiding the firm’s product development plan.
Colella draws upon her past experience in similar roles, including institutional client service and business development positions at SSI Investment Management, Artisan Partners and Wilshire Associates.

NexPoint Credit Strategies Fund has appointed James Dondero as portfolio manager.
Dondero has over 25 years of experience in the credit markets.
In addition to his role at NexPoint, Dondero is the president of Highland Capital Management, which he co-founded in 1993.
Prior to founding Highland, Dondero served as chief investment officer of Protective Life’s GIC subsidiary and helped grow the business from concept to over USD2bn between 1989 and 1993.
His portfolio management experience includes mortgage-backed securities, investment grade corporates, leveraged bank loans, high-yield bonds, emerging market debt, derivatives, and equity securities.
Asset management firm Attalus Capita has appointed Joshua Silva as senior portfolio strategist.
In this newly created role, Silva will work with Attalus’ trading and risk management teams to enhance the cost and benefit characteristics of Attalus’ risk calibration and benchmark replication for use with traditional and alternative investment strategies.
Silva will also work with Attalus’ clients to evaluate and construct customised solutions for their unique portfolio challenges. The development of Attalus’ proprietary investment platform addresses the growing demand for customised investment solutions such as risk exposure aggregation, calibration, inflation protection and tail hedging among the firm’s institutional clients.
In response to increased demand for outsourced compliance services in the marketplace, Avalon Lake Partners has recruited Harris Bogner, an attorney and compliance expert, to head its compliance services group.
Bogner’s role at Avalon Lake Partners will be to work directly with clients to ensure they develop a strong understanding of their compliance obligations while providing them with practical, cost-effective solutions.
Avalon Lake Partners recently spun-out from WTP Advisors to focus on providing a comprehensive set of advisory services to the alternative asset management industry, namely hedge funds, private equity firms and family offices.

The Alternative Investment Management Association has appointed a new non-executive chairman, Kathleen Casey, the former Securities and Exchange Commissioner and SEC representative to the International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO) and the Financial Stability Board (FSB).
Casey (pictured) served as a US Securities and Exchange Commissioner from 2006 to 2011. During her tenure, she acted as the SEC’s principal representative in various international regulatory dialogues and fora, including IOSCO and the FSB. In that role, she also served as chair of the IOSCO Technical Committee and led various international regulatory workstreams.

Gabelli Securities, a subsidiary of Gamco Investors, has appointed Joel S Torrance to assist in the firm’s alternative investment fund business.
Gabelli Securities which began managing its first fund, the Gabelli Associates Fund, in February 1985, is approaching USD1bn in assets under management.
Michael Gabelli says: "As we enter a major growth phase in our Alternatives business, we are pleased to have the benefit of Joel’s significant knowledge and experience in the hedge fund space. He will be an important addition to our compliance team and will add depth to our risk framework."

Based in San Francisco, Milmoe specializes in alternative asset structures, administration, custody services and fund technology.

Pyxis Capital, a registered investment adviser serving financial advisers, institutions and individual investors, has appointed Stephen Dedyo as managing director, head of national accounts for the Pyxis distribution team.
He will report to Brad Ross, president of Pyxis Capital.
Dedyo (pictured), 35, joins Pyxis from Janus Capital Group, where he was director, advisor relationship management, covering many major national broker-dealers.
Prior to Janus, he spent nearly a decade at AllianceBernstein in a variety of roles of increasing importance and responsibility, including time as a financial adviser associate, regional wholesaler, and a director for global business development.
