Greg Coffey (pictured), one of the star traders of the UK hedge fund industry, is quitting Louis Bacon’s Moore Capital Management to return to his native Australia.
According to reports, the 41-year-old, who is reckoned to have accumulated an estimated GBP260 million during his career, is taking early retirement to spend more time with his wife and three young children.
Coffey, known as the Wizard of Oz in trading circles, informed investors of his decision by letter. He intends to liquidate the GC Moore Emerging Macro Fund by the end of the year.

Alternative investment manager Aquila Capital has appointed Stuart MacDonald as managing director to assist in developing Aquila’s growing institutional business.
MacDonald joins Aquila Capital from Gems Advisors, having previously worked in a senior capacity at firms such as Henderson Global Investors, West Merchant Bank and Buchanan Partners.
In addition to many years of developing UK and international institutional clients, MacDonald hosts the investment radio show, “The Naked Short Club”, on London’s Resonance 104.4FM.

Maples Fund Services has expanded its US operations with the hire of Megan Corcoran as director of business development, Americas.
Based in New York, Corcoran will focus on expanding opportunities for continued growth of the fund services business in North America and South America.
Corcoran will work closely with Scott Somerville, chief executive of MaplesFS, and Toni Pinkerton, global head of fund services, to sell fund administration, middle-office and risk services to the alternative investment market. Reech AiM Group, the international asset management group specialising in absolute return strategies, has appointed Daniel Betts as client services director.
Based in London, Betts will oversee all client service functions including relationship management, sales support, marketing and market research. He will report directly to Christophe Reech, chief executive of Reech AiM Group.
Betts joins Reech from Aviva Investors, where he was most recently client relationship manager, responsible for providing client services to both wholesale and institutional clients, and sales support to the sales directors. Previously Betts was part of the investment sales support team at Aviva Investors.

Independent hedge fund managed account platform and risk analytics provider HedgeMark, an affiliate of BNY Mellon, has repositioned two of its managing directors to oversee business development efforts in specific regions of the world.
Jean-Francois Crousillat, a managing director at HedgeMark since January 2011, has been named head of business development for the Americas, while James F McKenna III, a managing director since September 2011, has been appointed head of business development for Europe, the Middle East and Asia (EMEA), as well as Asia ex-Japan. Both are new positions.

Kolts will be based in Wilton, Connecticut and report to Tyler Stevens, managing director, commodities group.

Ian Gobin and Deborah Poole have been appointed partners of Appleby within the funds and investment services team.
Both Gobbin (pictured) and Poole join Appleby from Walkers.
Gobin joined Appleby on 1 October 2012 and Poole, who was instrumental in starting Appleby’s London office back in 2012, will start in May 2013.
These appointments are at the core of Appleby’s focussed and strategic drive to enhance its global profile within the offshore funds world and in particular its Cayman funds offering.

The Isle of Man’s Department of Economic Development has appointed John Spellman as director of financial services with immediate effect.
Colin Kniveton, chief executive officer of the Isle of Man’s Department of Economic Development, says: “John has worked with the department for a number of years in a special advisor role and going forward he will work with an increased focus on the finance sector to drive its development. He has wide experience across many financial services sub sectors and disciplines and latterly has worked with the Isle of Man Government on generating strategic opportunity for the industry.”

Maples and Calder recently welcomed six new funds partners to its Cayman Islands office.
Heidi de Vries, Julian Ashworth, Sheryl Dean, David Marshall, Philip Millward and Gwyneth Rees join associates Greg Barwick, Philip Dickinson, Patrick Head and Lucy Nicklas, who commenced employment in August.
Tim Clipstone, a partner in the British Virgin Islands office, started in June.
