Hedge fund Brevan Howard has seen a notable exodus of senior technology staff in recent months, including at least seven key hires from its systematic and front-office tech teams, according to a report by eFinancial Careers.
Departures include John Loendorf, Head of Infrastructure for the Systematic Business; Catherine Garrod, Chief Information Security Officer; Seth Osher, Head of Front Office Macro Trading Technology; and former CTO Kevin Gage. Several others left last year, reflecting ongoing changes within the fund’s 200-strong tech division.
The reasons for the departures remain unclear, though recent leadership changes may have played a role. Mike Sanders, formerly of JPMorgan, became CTO in late 2024 and has been restructuring the technology function, including opening an India office and hiring new staff from investment banking technology backgrounds.
Brevan Howard’s technology function has undergone significant evolution over the past few years. Under Gage, the division expanded rapidly, followed by a 20% reduction in core and systematic tech staff in 2024. Recent departures leave Chris Willis, Head of Quantitative Analysis, as one of the few remaining senior technologists reporting to CEO Aron Landy.
Turnover among technologists is not unusual in the sector, even as Brevan seeks to attract new talent following a $2bn investment from Abu Dhabi-based Lunate.
