NYSE Euronext global derivatives average daily trading volume (ADV) in December 2013 was 5.9 million contracts, down 7.6 per cent from December 2012 and down 10.8 per cent from November 2013. NYSE Euronext European derivatives products ADV in December 2013 of 2.4 million contracts, excluding Bclear, increased 1.5 per cent compared to December 2012 but decreased 13.3 per cent from November 2013 levels.    Including Bclear, NYSE Liffe’s trade administration and clearing service for OTC products, European derivatives ADV decreased 11.3 per cent compared to December 2012, and decreased 3.9 per cent from November 2013. The international derivatives markets of Eurex Group ended 2013 with a turnover of approximately 2.2 billion contracts, down from 2.3 billion contracts in 2012. Annual trading for total exchange-wide activity and for futures on the CBOE Volatility Index (VIX Index) reached new all-time highs in 2013, with several other trading records set during the year. Clearstream, the post-trade services provider of Deutsche Börse Group, is extending the settlement day of its international central securities depository (ICSD). This results in improved cash and securities deadlines for internal settlement activity as well as for domestic settlement with local counterparties in the US, Canada and Latin American markets such as Argentina, Brazil, Mexico, Uruguay and Peru.   It will also facilitate the free flow of collateral within the extended deadlines.   From April 2014 it will be possible to settle internal and domestic US transactions via Clearstream until 20:00 CET (14:00 EST), an extension of two hours compared
Eurex Exchange is to list and clear index futures based on the TA-25 index, Israel’s blue chip index and one of the most heavily traded regional equity indices. The move is the result of a new agreement between Eurex Exchange and TASE, the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange.   Eurex’s TA-25 index futures will be denominated in US dollars. European Commodity Clearing (ECC) is to offer reporting of transaction data – so-called trade reporting – in the framework of the European Market Infrastructure Regulation (EMIR). According to Article 9 of EMIR, all market participants are obliged to forward transaction data regarding concluded derivatives transactions to a trade repository as of 12 February 2014.   These trade repositories are in charge of data collection and control as well as the forwarding of data to the national and European supervisory authorities. Russian investors and brokers will be able to issue and cancel depositary receipts (DRs) in Russian companies thanks to an agreement between National Settlement Depositary (NSD) and BNY Mellon. The two companies have developed a structure by which DRs, issued by BNY Mellon on shares of Russian companies, can be converted into a share or vice versa in Russia within one business day; this process currently takes between two and three business days.   The structure will allow DRs to trade on the secondary market, settle and be used as collateral in repurchase agreements (repos) by Russian market participants in their
Athena Systems has released the latest 64-bit version of its “Aura” software. Aura delivers fully customisable hedge fund management and analytics software.    The newest version of the Athena Aura gives users a series of important advantages in the capital markets.   Older 32-bit applications run up against a built-in memory limitation of 2 GB, which means data sets larger than 200 MB cannot be manipulated in real-time.
