Standard & Poor’s is making its Cusip Master File database available along with other S&P data through data management solutions provider GoldenSource in a format designed to allow users to manage their risk exposure more effectively by identifying issues and issuers from a variety of sources.

The Cusip Master File database, provided by the Cusip Service Bureau, includes identifiers for corporate, municipal and US government issues with intra-day, daily or weekly updates. The instruments covered by the database comprise corporate equity (including common and preferred stock, warrants, ADRs, funds and UITs), corporate debt (including debentures, notes, convertibles, CDs and medium-term notes), and municipal and US government debt.

‘S&P strives to improve transparency in the markets by making its industry leading data widely available,’ says James Taylor, managing director of the group’s securities classifications business. ‘The Cusip Master File database is valuable to GoldenSource users who want to identify issues and issuers and thereby manage their risk more effectively.’

GoldenSource already provides connections to several S&P data feeds including ISIDPlus Master Service (a global identifier cross-reference service, a joint venture with Telekurs Financial), Security to Entity CrossWalk (an alliance between S&P, Dun & Bradstreet and Telekurs Financial) and RatingsXpress (a customisable feed of real-time S&P credit ratings and research information on global issuers, structured finance and US public finance markets.

‘With the addition of the Cusip Master File to its product line, GoldenSource continues to offer its clients leading industry data sources through pre-configured interfaces,’ says Tom Stock, a senior vice-president for product management. ‘Clients will shorten implementation timeframes, reduce project risk and lower overall cost of ownership.’

For 40 years Cusip Global Services has provided a common language for identifying financial instruments across institutions, exchanges and countries, offering financial services firms operating efficiencies and lower administrative costs. Cusip Global Services is operated by the Cusip Service Bureau, which in turn is managed by Standard & Poor’s on behalf of the American Bankers Association.

GoldenSource offers an integrated enterprise data management platform for the securities and investment management industry with a data model covering all financial instruments, customers and counterparties, and also delivers outsourced data management services to customers including HSBC and OpHedge.
