SW Mitchell Capital, the USD2billion London-based European equities specialist is planning to soft close the UCITS fund it launched just four months after enjoying solid asset inflows reported HFMWeek this week. The Dublin-domiciled SWMC Small Cap European Fund, an onshore version of the firm’s offshore USD110million fund which employs an equity l/s approach, now has assets in excess of USD60million and is pushing the combined strategy close to its USD200million ceiling. The fund’s portfolio manager, Jamie Carter (pictured), is understandably pleased with the interest it has created within the investment community, particularly in London, although he confirms that Italian and Spanish investors have also shown interest. “We haven’t had to market the fund very much but we will need to cap the strategy at a capacity of USD200million,” Carter was quoted as saying. The firm’s founder, Stuart Mitchell, is expected to manage a new UCITS fund, earmarked for launch in November. It will be entitled the SWMC European Fund and will employ a long-biased approach to European stock picking. Carter confirmed that interest in this has already been very positive.
