Top multi-strats now employ nearly 16,000 people

The world’s nine biggest multi-strategy hedge fund firms – Citadel, Millennium, Balyasny, Point72, Verition, Schonfeld, Walleye, Eisler and ExodusPoint – now employ a combined 15,665 people, with almost half that total (7,103) being in investment roles, according to a report by eFinancial Careers.

The report cites US regulatory filings as revealing that in the last year alone Citadel, Millennium, ExodusPoint, Point72 and Balyasny alone have added a combined 1,663 new staff.

Millennium, which is by far the biggest firm, with 5,550 staff followed by Citadel with a headcount of 2,932,
has added 260 net new investment staff in the past year, while Citadel has added 62.

Point72 menashile, was the second-biggest net hirer of investment professionals over the period with 186 new additions, while ExodusPoint still added 32 Portfolio Managers despite seeing investors withdrawals totalling around $1bn.
