Yorkville Advisors HK, a wholly owned sub-adviser to the US-based Yorkville Advisors, has officially launched its Asia Pacific head office in Hong Kong.
Yorkville’s founder and president Mark Angelo (pictured) says the opening of the office and the hiring of investment professionals in Hong Kong will provide the firm with greater coverage and expertise in the region.
‘Yorkville was established in 2001 in the US with a focused investment strategy to provide financing solutions to small and mid-cap companies globally. Since then, our firm has grown considerably, and in addition to our headquarters in Jersey City, New Jersey, we have offices in Hong Kong, London and Jupiter (Florida),’ says Angelo.
‘Over the years, we have done numerous transactions in the Asia Pacific region with great success. With the opening of this office, we are looking to enhance our presence in the region and to continue to provide our unique financing models to companies in Asia, particularly in our priority markets of Greater China, Korea, Japan, Singapore, and Australia.’
Anthony Chan, Yorkville HK’s managing director and head of Asia, adds: ‘Yorkville’s strategy is to make tailored equity, equity-linked and debt investments in small and mid-cap public and private companies. We have extensive experience in investing with growth and mid-market companies worldwide, including more than 30 transactions in Australia and Singapore. This extensive experience, coupled with our dedicated local team on the ground in Asia, will allow us to deploy available capital to specific investment opportunities. We are well placed to offer alternative financing structures to the many listed companies throughout Asia, which under today’s market conditions are seeking alternative sources of capital to meet their needs.’
Yorkville established Yorkville HK in September 2008 to gain a presence in the Asia Pacific market. Yorkville HK received licensing approval from the Hong Kong Securities and Futures Commission in March 2009. The Hong Kong office is currently staffed by a team of six.
The firm also recently announced that it has appointed Hyunwoo Barton Lee as senior vice president in Asia. Lee will primarily focus on originating and structuring transactions in Korea and other Asian markets.
‘Barton has extensive capital markets experience in Korea and across other key markets in Asia, which will significantly add to Yorkville’s bench-strength in Asia,’ says Chan.
Lee was previously vice president, global capital markets, at Morgan Stanley in Hong Kong, where he was responsible for origination and execution of equity offerings, including initial public offerings, block trades, depositary receipts and convertible bond issuances for Korea and Taiwan. Prior to that he was associate director, equity capital markets, at UBS in Hong Kong, where he focused on the Korean market.
