Alternative asset manager The Carlyle Group has named Matthew J O’Connor as a managing director on the power investing team.
O’Connor joins Bob Mancini as co-head of the team, which is investing a managed account in conjunction with the Cogentrix Energy power group brought over from Goldman Sachs last year.
He joins the firm in September and will work out of Carlyle’s Washington, DC, and New York offices.
O’Connor comes to Carlyle from GE where he held a variety of positions over the last 14 years, including nearly seven years in leadership roles with GE Energy Financial
Carne Group has become the first European independent management company solution authorised under the Alternative Investment Fund Managers Directive (AIFMD).
The management company has been approved by the Central Bank of Ireland and is available immediately for fund managers seeking AIFM solutions from a reliable and institutionally-respected provider.
The AIFM Directive came into force on 22 July. The Directive has significantly changed the way in which alternative funds are managed, both inside and outside the EU, and affects managers who distribute funds within the EU that are not UCITS-compliant.

More than 600,000 trades have been submitted to clearinghouses by MarkitSERV in the period between 11 March, when the Commodity Futures Trading Commission made clearing of certain over-the-counter (OTC) derivatives mandatory, and the end of July.
MarkitSERV is the most widely-used trade processing service for OTC derivatives.

The international derivatives market Eurex Exchange will introduce currency derivatives (FX contracts) as exchange-listed products as of 7 October.
Eurex Exchange will initially offer futures and options on the following currency pairs: EUR/USD, EUR/GBP, EUR/CHF, GBP/USD, GBP/CHF and USD/CHF. The majority of over-the-counter, daily FX derivatives trading takes place in these currency pairs.

Options, the private financial cloud provider for the capital markets industry, has further expanded its connectivity to a number of key trading venues, in addition to adding a number of new data feeds to the Options PIPE Platform.
These latest additions to the IaaS provider’s offering come as a result of increased client demand.
This most recent deployment to the platform will see Options add HSBC and AllianceBernstein dark pools in Europe to its destinations, while the new market data feeds will include CBOE CSM, C2, CSM, BOX, CHX, and Nasdaq’s PHLX.

Counsel Portfolio Services has appointed PanAgora Asset Management as the tactical asset allocation specialist and sub-advisor for Counsel Income Managed Portfolio and Counsel Managed Portfolio, replacing Thornmark Asset Management.
PanAgora’s appointment will be effective immediately.
An amendment to the 26 October 2012 simplified prospectus, reflecting the complete details of the changes to Counsel Income Managed Portfolio and Counsel Managed Portfolio, will be filed shortly.
BUMP Network has appointed hedge fund manager Gregg Parise as its new president and chief financial officer.
In his dual roles, Parise (pictured) will continue to build value in the company and manage its team and operations.
Parise will report directly to Mitch Thrower, the chief executive and chairman of BUMP Network.
Parise has 20 years of portfolio management and financial market experience. He has spent the last 12 years as the founder and portfolio manager of various long/short equity hedge funds, including LINC Asset Management, Calimar Capital and Dorado Capital Management.

Visium Asset Management has launched the Visium Event Driven Fund (VIDVX), the first mutual fund offering for the alternative asset management firm.

Value investing specialist FPA is launching a Global Value Strategy on 1 September, which will be overseen by Gregory A Herr and Pierre O Py.
As part of the launch, the board of directors of FPA Paramount Fund (FPRAX) has appointed the leadership team to manage the fund under the new strategy.
Herr and Py have been co-portfolio managers of FPA Paramount Fund since May 2011 and September 2011, respectively. Herr also serves as co-portfolio manager of FPA’s Small/Mid-Cap Quality Strategy, and Py also serves as portfolio manager of FPA’s International Value Strategy.
