Fixed-income, relative value hedge fund manager Mariner Investment Group, has appointed Edward G “EG” Fisher as its sole Chief Investment Officer (CIO), with effect from 30 June, according to a report by Pension & Investments. Fisher, an existing partner and head of liquid-market strategies, currently serves as co-CIO alongside William J Michaelcheck, a partner and the firm’s founder, who is staying on as vice chairman. Michaelcheck will also remain on the firm’s investment oversight, executive, management and risk committees. Mariner managed USD6 billion as of Jan. 31 in its flagship fixed-income relative-value strategy and other strategies.
GAM Investments has appointed Guglielmo Mazzola as Senior Investment Specialist for GAM Systematic. He is based in London. In this role, Mazzola will manage the interface with clients and GAM’s distribution team. He will work closely with the GAM Systematic team to help further articulate their investment strategies and share investment information on GAM’s systematic and alternative client solutions. Prior to joining GAM, Mazzola worked as Senior Portfolio Manager at Tiber Capital LPP, a London-based asset manager specialising in alternative investments and systematic managed futures/ ommodity Trading Advisor (CTA). 
Joy Li has been promoted to Head of APAC at Gold-i â€“ a newly created role which involves responsibility for all Gold-i activity in the region including business development, sales, operations and support. She will also have overall responsibility for managing the team in Gold-i’s Shanghai office. Joy Li will report into Gold-i’s UK-based CCO, Mark Alvarez-Buylla.   Li joined Gold-i in Shanghai in 2018 and was quickly promoted to Head of Business Development for the Asia Pacific region in 2019. Hedge fund Balyasny Asset Management is planning a recruitment drive for a new equities division Corbets Capital, which is slated to launch in Q2 2022, according to a report by Bloomberg. Balyasny is said to be recruiting investment managers for the new division, which will operate from offices in New York and Greenwich, Connecticut. The new team will be led by curernt Associate Director of Research Tom Stephens who will take on the role of President of Corbets Capital. The report says that Chicago-based Balyasny will allocate capital from its multi-strategy funds to Corbets Capital.
Eventus Systems, a leading global provider of multi-asset class trade surveillance and market risk solutions, has appointed Josh Bosquez as Chief Technology Officer (CTO). Bosquez joins the company with 24 years of software engineering experience, including more than 20 years in leadership roles in technology innovation, cloud-native platforms, cybersecurity and compliance.   For the past three years, Bosquez served as Chief Technology Officer at Armor Cloud Security, responsible for the firm’s engineering, product, security and compliance organizations for the Software-as-a-Service cybersecurity offering.
Digital asset investment products saw inflows of USD127 million last week, an uptick to on the previous week, suggesting investors remain supportive of digital assets despite the recent geopolitical events, according to the latest digital assets fund flows weekly report from CoinShares. In a similar manner to the previous week, the positive sentiment was centred in North America with inflows totalling USD151 million versus outflows in Europe totalling USD24 million. Bitcoin saw inflows totalling USD95 million last week, the largest single weekly inflows since early December 2021.
Preqin’s new Women in Alternatives 2022 report shows that although the alternatives industry has not seen a major drop in the proportion of female employees during the Covid-19 pandemic, there is more work to be done to rectify the marked gender imbalance, especially in senior positions. Gender balance has improved, albeit slowly, across the alternative assets industry as a whole. According to Deloitte, one woman in the C-suite leads to three promotions of women into senior management roles; simply put, the lack of women in leadership positions can negatively affect the prosperity of women in the industry as a whole.
