Canada’s Brookfield Asset Management has its sights set on establishing a European presence for its hedge fund business, according to a report in the Financial Times. The Toronto-based firm’s Brookfield Hedge Fund Solutions Advisors, a USD1 billion multi-strategy unit trading areas such as equity market neutral and event-driven, has, until now, based all of its trading teams in New York.  According to the report though, the firm is now actively recruiting for a European team which will be operate out of a new office in London.

Hanover Investors has appointed Brett Lankester, the former Chief Executive of UBP London, as a Senior Partner. Lankester is spearheading the development of the firm’s capital raising and investor relations capabilities. Along with Matthew Peacock, the Founder and Chairman of the specialist investor, and with other Senior Partners, he will also be involved in developing the strategic direction of the firm which operates in under-analysed and illiquid markets. Lankester is a senior figure in the sector; he was UBP’s London Chief Executive for three years following the Swiss private bank’s acquisition of ACPI Investment Managers, which he co-founded in 2007.
Private equity firm Montagu has completed its investment in Waystone, a provider of institutional governance, risk, and compliance services to the asset management industry, while Hg, a global software and services investor, is also joining as a strategic investor and joint shareholder in the firm. Montagu first announced its investment in Waystone in July 2021. Hg’s investment is subject to regulatory approval and customary closing conditions.
