AlphaCat Managers (AlphaCat), a wholly owned subsidiary of Validus Holdings, has appointed Bernard Van der Stichele as Portfolio Manager. He will report to Lixin Zeng, Chief Executive Officer of AlphaCat. Van der Stichele brings over 15 year of institutional investment management experience to AlphaCat. Previously, he served as Vice President at AQR Capital Management. Prior to that, he was a Senior Investment Analyst at Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan, where he developed its first direct ILS investment strategy. LOGiQ Asset Management has appointed Tim Fitzpatrick as chief compliance officer of the company and certain of its securities-registered subsidiaries, effective 1 June 2017 subject to securities regulatory approval.   Fitzpatrick is a highly experienced compliance executive with an extensive background in Canadian securities regulatory practices.   Most recently he was the chief compliance officer at Goodman & Company, Investment Counsel Inc, and has also served as a senior compliance officer for Mackenzie Financial Corporation. Ashburton Investments, the investment management arm of the FirstRand Group, has strengthened its equity research capabilities by hiring Robert Lea as head of global equity research.   The newly created global equity research team will provide analysis for the equity solutions range as well as Ashburton’s multi-asset strategy which has been running for over 30 years.   Ashburton is bolstering its equity research function to provide its investment managers with further in-depth analysis. Lea will head up the new team, with Jonathan Aldrich-Blake moving from his current role of Investment Manager at Ashburton to join the newly created team.  
Eze Software, a provider of investment management technology, is investing in its EMEA operation and has appointed David Quinlan (pictured), an 18-year veteran of Eze Software, Executive Managing Director, EMEA. Quinlan will be leading EMEA business development, sales and client services in the region, focused on the needs of the growing number of EMEA clients in the MiFID II environment. Global advisory and fund administration firm Maitland has appointed David Hathorn, until recently the CEO of FTSE 100 packaging and paper giant Mondi, to the firm’s board as a non-executive director.   Hathorn (pictured) will also act as chairman of the audit and risk committee of Maitland International Holdings.   The appointment comes amid a period of growth for Maitland, which recently expanded its reach to 17 offices globally.
