A decade after starting Blue Sky Alternative Investments, founder Mark Sowerby will hand over the reins to the company’s current chief operating officer, Robert Shand, on 30 September 2016.
Shand has been with Blue Sky since 2010, was promoted to chief operating officer in 2013, and is well known to Blue Sky’s investor and associate network. He will replace Sowerby as managing director, backed by the existing team.
Sowerby, who will remain an active adviser to the business and a significant shareholder, is stepping down to spend time with his family and increase his involvement in other projects with
Norrep Capital Management has appointed Wan Kim as senior vice president, national sales and marketing.
Kim has over 20 years of experience in the investment industry. Prior to joining Norrep, he was at a large financial institution where he managed external wholesalers supporting 27,000 active financial advisers in all channels (IIROC, MFDA, AMF, and MGAs) using bank products.
Previously, Kim led the sales teams at three other national fund companies where he held the role of senior vice president, national sales. Kim led a sales team to 54 consecutive net positive months of sales of mutual funds from 2004
Corporate credit specialist Muzinich & Co has added to its European syndicated loans team with the appointment of Torben Ronberg, Stuart Fuller, Sam McGairl and Alex Woolrich.
Muzinich & Co says expansion of its team forms part of a global effort to invest across the capital structure and provide compelling investment opportunities for investors.
The trio joins from ECM Asset Management, a subsidiary of Wells Fargo.
Red Deer, a London-based FinTech company, has appointed Stefano Vaccino as chief product officer and Henry Price as chief commercial officer.
Vaccino joins Red Deer from Algomi, where he was chief product officer and a member of the executive team. Prior to this he co-founded the design company OltreDesign as well as spending six years as an executive director at Goldman Sachs. At Red Deer he will oversee product strategy and manage the entire development prioritisation process.
Price joins Red Deer from Traiana, a market infrastructure technology firm for trade processing and risk management, where he was head of product,
RueOne Investments, an alternative asset manager that offers institutional asset owners and family offices direct investment opportunities, has appointed Michael Caro as director of partnerships.
Caro, who is also a partner in the firm, is responsible for overall business development – cultivating relationships with RueOne's asset manager partners and global investor base.
Caro brings extensive buy and sell side experience and relationships and a 15-year track record in institutional sales and client relations, with particular expertise working with esoteric investments and less liquid assets.
Caro joins RueOne from Canaccord Genuity where he was a vice president in the
BCS Global Markets, a securities broker on the Moscow Exchange, has made five senior hires in its investment banking services team to drive the expansion of the group.
The five hires are all experienced financial services professionals, who will help to further develop the investment banking division at BCS Global Markets. The team has grown to a total of 13 professionals at all levels.
Igor Ushakov, managing director, will run BCS Global Markets’ mining and metallurgical division. He has over 10 years of experience in investment banking. Prior to joining BCS he held a position of director at Sberbank
Loan and bond administrator GLAS has expanded its operations to Asia with the opening of a new office in Singapore headed by Paul Wilden.
The move has been driven by an increased demand for alternative loan and paying agency, and escrow service providers as banks reduce their involvement in the market.
GLAS offers a wide range of administration services to lenders, borrowers, issuers and advisers across the loan and debt markets, specialising in complex deals including loan and bond restructurings. These services have been used by Atlas Iron, Consolidated Minerals and 3i Infotech since GLAS was established in Europe
Bay-Area based investment management company HonTe Investments has appointed Joann Shie-Chen as operations manager, responsible for furthering the design and implementation of HonTe’s institutional-grade, operations platform.
Shie-Chen joins from over six years in operations and compliance at Sensato Investors, a USD4 billion investment adviser.
Previously, she held relationship management positions at both Barclays Global Investors and Goldman Sachs.

Global law firm Ropes & Gray has appointed Amanda Persaud as a partner in the funds practice in the firm’s 300-lawyer New York office.
Persaud’s practice focuses on the formation, fundraising and operation of private investment funds, including private equity funds, hedge funds, credit funds and other types of alternative asset funds.
She regularly provides counsel on a wide range of governance, operational and regulatory matters affecting sponsor clients. She frequently advises on significant business transactions such as purchases and sales of asset management businesses, spinouts and key person separations.
Persaud joins Ropes & Gray from Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen
John Frishkopf, head of the asset management and treasury group at New Star Financial, is to retire from the company on 30 September 2016.
Frishkopf was a founding member of the firm and has served in his current role since NewStar’s inception in 2004.
He will remain involved with the company as an external advisor to provide decision support to the management committee and to advise the risk committee of the board of directors as needed on strategic funding matters.
Frishkopf will be succeeded as treasurer by Michael Eisenstein, a managing director in the treasury group. Eisenstein joined
