Scipion Capital, a commodity trade finance investment manager, has appointed Paul Baker as head of trade finance to oversee all of the company’s trade functions. In this newly created role, he will report to the firm’s chief investment officer, Nicolas Clavel.   Baker (pictured) brings to Scipion 30 years’ experience in identifying, structuring and closing trade finance facilities.   Before joining Scipion, Baker spent eight years at Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation Europe (SMBC), where he was an assistant general manager in the firm’s structured trade and commodity finance department. Lyxor Asset Management has appointed Laurent Renaud as chief executive in Japan, effective immediately. He replaces Toshiro Kubozono who has retired after nine years in the role.   Based in Tokyo, Renaud (pictured) reports to Lionel Paquin, chief executive officer of Lyxor Asset Management, and locally to Raphael Cheminat, group country head for Japan, Societe Generale.   In his new role, Renaud manages Lyxor’s subsidiary in Japan. Aquila Capital is expanding its advisory board with the appointment of Daniel Just (pictured), chairman of the executive board at Bayerische Versorgungskammer (BVK), Germany’s largest public pension fund. Fixed income manager BlueBay Asset Management has appointed Mark Bathgate as portfolio manager to its investment grade team. Alternative investment management firm PAAMCO has appointed hedge fund veteran Basil Williams as managing director. During the next year, he will transition into head of portfolio management, succeeding David Weinberger who plans to retire in mid-2017.   Williams, who was most recently co-chief investment officer of Mariner Investment Group, cites the innovation at PAAMCO as the key driver for him in joining the firm.   "Whether it is providing alternative absolute return portfolios, solving an LDI challenge or constructing bespoke completion portfolios for traditional asset class allocations, PAAMCO has become the go-to firm for the world's most sophisticated institutional investors,”
Man Group has introduced a new senior management structure alongside a number of internal promotions, following the naming of Luke Ellis as chief executive officer (CEO). Spring Valley Asset Management (SVAM) has appointed Brian Zeitz as its chief technology officer (CTO), with responsibility for the management and oversight of the firm's technology infrastructure. Man Group has appointed Brian Broesder and Westin Lovy as managing directors based in firm’s Connecticut office. They are both joining from Bridge Lane Capital, a firm they co-founded in 2012 which specialises in private debt transactions with small and lower middle market companies in North America.   Broesder and Lovy will continue to manage Bridge Lane’s portfolios at Man Group. Bridge Lane currently has over USD125 million in committed capital.   Prior to co-founding Bridge Lane in 2012, Broesder was managing director and portfolio manager at credit manager Whitecap Advisors, which he joined at its inception in 2003.   Broesder’s
Joshua J Yang has joined the Chicago office of K&L Gates as a partner in the firm’s investment management, hedge funds and alternative investments practice.
