Law firm Maples and Calder, which advises on the laws of the Cayman Islands, Ireland and the British Virgin Islands, has announced the appointment of 12 new partners across its global offices. Jim Dondero, Co-Founder and President of Highland Capital Management, has been named Senior Portfolio Manager of the firm's Energy MLP Fund, effective 1 February, 2015. Dondero joins Jon Poglitsch, CFA and Matthew Gray, CFA as lead managers of the fund. Trading Technologies International (TT), a provider of high-performance professional trading software, has appointed Brian Mehta as Chief Marketing Officer (CMO).  Mehta is responsible for advancing the company’s brand, managing new product launches and leading all public outreach. He is a member of the executive team, where he reports directly to CEO Rick Lane. Mehta joins TT from Motorola Mobility, where he served as head of North America Marketing. At Motorola, he oversaw several major marketing initiatives – such as a partnership with the NFL – and product launches for the DROID RAZR, DROID MAXX, Moto X and the Moto 360.
Leor Shapiro has joined Jefferies as a Managing Director and Global Head of Business Consulting for the firm’s Global Prime Services unit.   In this new role, Shapiro will work closely with Jefferies’ sales and capital introduction teams to advise and assist startup and existing managers with fund launches and expansion. Previously, Shapiro was US Head of Business Consulting Services at UBS. He will report to John Laub, Global co-Head of Prime Brokerage at Jefferies, who joined the firm last summer.
