Robert Leonard and Michael Mavrides have joined the law firm Proskauer’s hedge fund group as partners in the firm’s New York office. Investment firm FORT Management has expanded its operations and opened a new office in New York. Based in Chevy Chase, Maryland the firm was founded by former fund managers at the World Bank, Yves Balcer and Sanjiv Kumathe.    The firm manages approximately USD700m in assets on behalf of institutional and high net worth investors worldwide.    Balcer is heading up FORT’s new office, located at 540 Madison Avenue, and is being joined by two new managing directors – Alan Marantz and Douglas McKeige – who have come on board to direct business development and assist in overall firm management.
The Alternative Investment Management Association (AIMA), the global hedge fund industry association, has appointed three new directors to its global council, its governing body. The three directors are Simon Lorne, vice-chairman and chief legal officer of Millennium Management; Tim O’Brien, partner, general counsel and CCO of Pine River Capital Management; and Stuart Fiertz, president and co-founder of Cheyne Capital Management (UK).   Kathy Casey, AIMA chair, says: “We are most fortunate to add three enormously experienced and well-qualified directors to our council. Jason Allison has joined Walkers’ Cayman Islands office as a partner in the global investment funds group. Allison, an offshore investment funds practitioners, has close to ten years' experience advising on Cayman Islands law.   After spending over five years at Freshfields in London, he commenced his Cayman Islands career with Maples and Calder in 2004, becoming a partner there in 2007. In 2012, Allison left Maples and Calder to help establish the Cayman Islands office of another international offshore law firm.   Allison advises on Cayman Islands corporate and investment funds law, with particular expertise advising institutional clients on

Adam Sussman has joined Liquidnet as head of market structure and liquidity partnerships. In this global role, Sussman (pictured) will serve as a senior advisor on market structure issues providing insight and guidance on industry developments, technological trends and financial industry dynamics to Liquidnet’s community of buy side members and customers.   He will also advance Liquidnet’s efforts in identifying new ways to bring in additional sources of unique, safe and actionable block liquidity by building and strengthening partnerships with a broad spectrum of industry participants.   Sussman will be based in New York, reporting to Liquidnet’s head of US equities
Forum Securities has appointed Sophia Banar as managing director and strategic risk and portfolio manager based in the firm’s Old Greenwich, Connecticut office.  Banar brings over 15 years of real estate investing and consulting experience to Forum.   Before joining Forum Securities, Banar was a portfolio manager with The Tuckerman Group, a boutique real estate focused affiliate of State Street Global Advisors.   In her new role Banar will cover US companies and will add her voice to Forum Securities’ global portfolio management team. Forum expects that her investment contributions will initially focus on risk management and a top-down perspective.
