Omgeo has appointed Jeannie Shanahan as its new managing director of governance, risk management and compliance (GRC).
In this role, Shanahan will focus on developing and implementing risk-based compliance programmes that support Omgeo’s ongoing commitment to providing services that reduce operational and counterparty risk and promote regulatory compliance.
Shanahan will lead Omgeo’s legal and regulatory compliance initiatives to ensure all Omgeo services promote compliance with anti-money laundering/OFAC mandates, insider trading, records retention and anti-bribery/corruption laws and regulation. She will additionally drive the organisation’s SSAE 16 compliance through control testing and reporting, validating the strength and effectiveness of Omgeo’s
Sapient Global Markets has expanded its European footprint with the opening of a new office in Frankfurt, Germany.
The office will provide business and technology consulting for capital and commodity markets clients across the German speaking landscape in Europe.

M L Ballew III and T Doug Dale Jr, principals of Security Ballew Wealth Management, have formed Consilium Capital to manage a global macro investment strategy for accredited investors.
The Consilium strategy centres on a high level assessment of the global economy, which serves as the basis of an adaptive investment process. This process was developed to capitalise on undervalued assets and take defensive positions in overvalued assets in accordance with the investment committee’s model.

Inès de Dinechin has been appointed as chairman of Lyxor Asset Management’s managing board, effective 10 June 2013.
This appointment follows current chairman Alain Dubois’s decision to leave Lyxor in the near future, in order to pursue another professional challenge abroad.
Other than this appointment, Lyxor’s governance and its operational model are not expected to change. In particular, all Lyxor funds’ investment decisions and processes will remain the responsibility of the chief investment officers, Nicolas Gaussel and Lionel Erdely, who are still reporting directly to de Dinechin.
Alternative asset manager Mariner Investment Group has named Peter van Dooijeweert, the former head of equity relative value trading at Citigroup, to run a global equity volatility portfolio on the Mariner Incubation Platform, a multi-strategy mandate Mariner launched in April 2013.
The portfolio will be known as the Mariner Equity Volatility Strategy. This appointment follows the firm’s recent appointments of Richard Rumble (pictured) to manage a global emerging market equity portfolio and Eric Pellicciaro to manage a global macro portfolio on this new platform.

Andrew Baker, chief executive officer of the Alternative Investment Management Association (AIMA), the hedge fund industry association, is to stand down at the end of 2013.
AIMA is in the process of identifying a successor for Baker, who has been CEO since the beginning of 2009, having previously been deputy CEO since 2007.

Thornburg Investment Management (TIM), the USD87bn asset manager, has opened an office in London to enhance its global distribution capabilities.
TIM has appointed Chris Elsmark and Karim Elfar to the newly-created positions of joint managing directors in the firm’s new London office.
The two will lead Thornburg Global Advisors, the London-based entity responsible for the firm’s institutional and professional investor market outside the US. They will report to Peter Trevisani, Thornburg’s head of global distribution and president of Thornburg Global Investment, the Irish-domiciled UCITS range of funds.
Elsmark and Elfar will have the primary responsibility for developing
Argonaut Capital Partners, a specialist in managing European equities, has appointed George Adam as regional sales manager.
Adam joins the firm from Cazenove Capital Management, where he was a discretionary sales manager with responsibility for the North of England, Scotland, the Isle of Man and Ireland.
He formerly held positions with Aegon Asset Management as a business development consultant and RBS, where he was an investment manager. Adam has also enjoyed spells with Standard Life Investments, F&C Investments and First State Investments.

Six members of the 2011 and 2012 classes of 100 Women in Hedge Funds/CAIA Scholars have earned the CAIA Charter, the alternative investment designation.
The scholarship initiative, offered by the 100 Women in Hedge Funds Institute through the sponsorship of Pacific Alternative Asset Management Company (PAAMCO), was established to recognise and reward rising female talent in the alternative investment industry.
