Kohlberg Kravis Roberts has appointed Kaveh Samie as managing director and head of Middle East and North Africa.
Previously, Samie was a managing director and head of equities for HSBC Middle East & North Africa.
The appointment takes effect on 6 January 2011.
Samie will work closely with Ford M. Fraker, chairman of KKR Middle East and North Africa, to expand the firm’s presence in the region.

Emerging markets specialist Finisterre Capital has appointed Xavier Corin-Mick as a partner in the firm.
Corin-Mick joined Finisterre Capital in September 2008 as portfolio manager for the Sovereign Debt Fund.
The Sovereign Debt Fund now has over USD300m in assets under management and has returned 11.33 per cent to the end of November.
Corin-Mick was previously managing director, co-head of emerging markets trading at Morgan Stanley.
He started his career as an options trader at Indosuez Bank and went on to work in trading at Fortis Bank, Depfa Bank and Lehman Brothers.

Minneapolis based Groveland Capital has hired David Cragg as chief operating officer and chief financial officer.
Cragg has extensive experience managing the operations of both hedge fund and mutual fund products.
He was chief operating officer and chief financial officer of The Leuthold Group from 1999 through August 2009, during which time he also served as chief compliance officer from 1999 to 2005.
Cragg brings a background that includes launching six mutual funds and seven hedged funds, and overseeing multiple SEC examinations.
Prior to Leuthold, Cragg supervised operations for Piper Trust Company from 1993 to 1999.

Fortress Investment Group has appointed David Barry as a member of the company’s board, effective 1 January 2011.
Barry will serve as a class I director.
The board has also appointed Barry to its audit committee and nominating, corporate governance and conflicts committee.
Barry will replace Howard Rubin, who will resign from the board, as well as the audit committee and the compensation committee, effective as of 1 January.

GLG, an investment manager and division of Man Group, has boosted its event driven team with the appointment of Simon Freeman as an asset manager.
Freeman will report to Gerard Griffin, who joined GLG from Tisbury Capital Management earlier this year to lead and expand its event driven strategies.
Freeman joins from Credit Suisse where he was managing director of trading for event driven strategies. Prior to that, he was senior managing director of trading for event driven strategies at Bear Stearns where he managed the USD1bn European book. He was previously director and portfolio manager at UBS O’Connor.
Richard Hughes has been appointed senior manager, business development, within the funds and corporate services division of the Vistra Group, based in the Jersey office.
Hughes will be responsible for advising new and existing clients from across the Vistra Group on alternative investment funds, particularly assisting in the creation and ongoing management of those funds.

BlueCrest Capital Management has appointed Jaime Valdivia as head of global emerging markets research and strategy.
He joins from the Emerging Sovereign Group where he was a partner, portfolio manager and director of global macro research specialising in global sovereign credit and rates strategy.
He has previously been head of global emerging markets research at Morgan Stanley, and was the desk economist at the International Monetary Fund.

Union Bancaire Privée has appointed Philippe Broadhead as head of sales – UK in its asset management division.
Broadhead brings with him vast experience of the UK investment market, having spent over 20 years working with a wide variety of clients.
Prior to joining UBP he held a number of high-profile positions over the course of eight years at Legal & General Investment Management, including head of UK institutional distribution, head of hedge fund distribution and head of multi-manager investments.
Before working for Legal & General he held business development roles at Friends Ivory & Sime and Friends Provident.
Financial Risk Management, a hedge fund investment firm with offices in Europe, Asia, North America and Australia, has hired George Yepes as managing director, head of North American business development.
Yepes will work with FRM’s New York and global investment and client teams in managing and developing relationships with consultants, institutional clients, financial institutions and high net worth investors in the US and Canada.
Previously, Yepes was managing director and head of US Distribution and client relationship management at Man Investments, and until 2009 he was head of North American sales for Gottex Fund Management.

Sivel will assume a senior role within the operational due diligence team, focusing on the review and evaluation of all operational aspects related to potential and existing hedge fund investments.
Prior to joining Lyxor, Sivel was co-head of operational due diligence for Neuberger Berman Alternative Investment Management.
From 2007 to 2009, she was an associate on the operational due diligence team for Lehman Brothers Alternative Investment Management.
