Hedgebay, a secondary hedge fund market provider, has appointed Lindsey Clavel as directeur, a role which will see her lead the firm’s UK marketing drive. Prior to joining Hedgebay in 2005, Clavel spent ten years running the metals trading desk of an Italian industrialist’s family office. Fidessa group, provider of trading, compliance, market data and connectivity solutions for the buy-side and sell-side, has appointed Robert Thompson president of its North American buy-side operations, encompassing the LatentZero front office suite. Thompson will now act across the Fidessa group in the Americas, where he has been chief operating officer of its sell-side operations for the last 14 years. Channel Islands law firm Carey Olsen has promoted Robert Milner and Simon Marks to partner in the Jersey corporate and finance practice area. Milner specialises in finance and fund structures with a particular focus on vehicles aimed at institutional and sophisticated investors. He also advises an international base of clients and lenders where property-holding structures involve Jersey vehicles. Milner established the first Jersey unregulated fund limited partnership and has established a number of funds which are listed on global stock exchanges. Prime brokerage firm Merlin Securities is expanding its footprint with a push into Canada. The firm has recently hired Daniel Dorenbush as a partner and chief executive officer of the firm’s Canadian operation, which is slated to open later this year, according to the report by FINalternatives. In his new role, Dorenbush will be based in Toronto and will report to Ron Suber, senior partner, head of global sales and marketing. Most recently, Dorenbush was a New York-based managing director and global head of strategic sales and relationship management in the hedge fund services division at RBC Capital Markets. He
Partners Capital, the London and Boston based private investment office serving investment professionals, endowments, foundations and high net worth families, has promoted Arjun Raghavan to become its seventh partner. Raghavan joined Partners Capital in 2007 as a principal and has been the co-portfolio manager of The Master Portfolio. He also sits on the international investment committee. Prior to joining Partners Capital, Raghavan was a senior fund analyst and director at Quantiva Capital, an equities hedge fund where he traded European equities and options. Threadneedle has appointed Mark Burgess as its chief investment officer. He joins Threadneedle in the first quarter of 2011 and will work closely with Sarah Arkle (pictured), Threadneedle’s current chief investment officer, as she hands over her role and responsibilities to him. Arkle is retiring in 2011 after a City career spanning over 30 years and will become Threadneedle’s vice chairman.   Twenty seven years ago Arkle joined Allied Dunbar Asset Management, one of the two businesses which merged to form Threadneedle. In 1994 she was one of Threadneedle’s founding members and in 2000 was appointed chief investment officer.  
Frontier Capital Management, a UK-based investment management company, has named Colin Hodges chief executive officer. Hodges (pictured) previously held the position of chief operating officer. Michael Azlen, who founded the company in 2004, becomes executive chairman.   Marc Davies has been promoted to the role of head of investments. He will continue to act as portfolio manager on Frontier Capital’s range of multi-asset funds.  The company’s index tracking hedge fund, Frontier Global Hedge, is managed by Alex Gaitan.
Butterfield Fulcrum, an alternative fund administrator, has appointed Michael K. Clark as chief executive officer. Clark has over 25 years of experience in the global securities industry, having led the growth of several global servicing firms. Most recently he was president, institutional products group at Fidelity Investments since 2007. Before that he was chief executive of both JPMorgan’s Worldwide Securities Services and its Trust and Clearing Services from 1997. Clark’s appointment comes as Akshaya Bhargarva (pictured), current chief executive, leaves the company after three years at the helm of the business. The Blackstone Group has appointed John G. Finley as a senior managing director and chief legal officer, effective 1 September 2010.  Finley is currently a partner at the law firm of Simpson Thacher & Bartlett, where he is head of the global mergers and acquisitions group. In becoming Blackstone’s chief legal officer, Finley will be succeeding Robert L. Friedman, who will continue at Blackstone for a period of time before retiring from the firm. Lloyds TSB Corporate Markets has appointed Paul Osment as director for leveraged credit sales reporting to Martin Bates, head of capital markets sales. In this newly created position, Osment will join the leveraged credit sales team covering banks and leveraged investors for both bonds and leveraged loans.
