Law firm Fried, Frank, Harris, Shriver & Jacobson has elected Lisa Schneider to the firm’s partnership, effective 1 September 2010.
Schneider’s practice is focused primarily on the structuring and representation of hedge funds and other alternative investment products.
She joined the firm’s New York office in 2002.

BTIG, a broker dealer specialising in institutional trading and related brokerage services, has appointed Michael Nethercott as a director in equity sales trading.
Nethercott joins BTIG from Lighthouse Financial Group where he was part of the firm’s agency focused execution desk.
Prior to Lighthouse Financial Group, Nethercott was with Bear Stearns for eight years. While at Bear Stearns, Nethercott was part of a group that started an internal agency only desk for the firm’s clients.
He started his career at Olstein & Associates, where he spent two years as a trader.

Technology company Convergex Group has expanded NorthPoint Trading Partners, its recently acquired prime services business, with four new hires.
Michael McLoughlin and Jay Mercier have signed on with NorthPoint’s electronic execution group and Raoul Scott and Erik Fuchs have joined NorthPoint’s client serving team.
All are based in Atlanta, Georgia.

Fortress Investment Group has appointed Stuart Bohart as president of liquid markets and senior managing director – strategy.
Bohart will become a member of Fortress’s operating and management committees, and will have responsibility for all non-investment activities of the firm’s liquid markets business.

Mike McCuin and Adrianne Schulte have joined BTIG to broaden its prime brokerage offering.
They join BTIG’s Boston office that already includes 12 professionals focused on equity and fixed income trading.

Okapi Partners, the proxy solicitation firm, has hired Geoff Sorbello as a managing director.
Sorbello joins Okapi Partners from ISS, a division of RiskMetrics Group which is now a subsidiary of MSCI.
While at ISS, Sorbello was responsible for providing governance services and advice, including M&A research, to the firm’s hedge fund clients. Sorbello worked closely with the firm’s proxy advisory services group, actively participating in dialogue regarding contentious mergers and acquisitions and proxy fights. Additionally, Sorbello managed relationships with many of the firm’s institutional investor clients.

Pardus Capital Management, a New York-based alternative investment manager, has appointed Ali Mostafavee as head of portfolio risk and a member of the firm’s investment committee.
Mostafavee will oversee the firm’s risk exposure and hedging activities across its global event driven investment portfolios as well as support research due diligence efforts.
Prior to joining Pardus, Mostafavee was director of prime brokerage risk at UBS and director of risk analysis at Tribeca Global Capital Management.
