NYSE Liffe will introduce weekly options on three of the most liquid shares traded on the Amsterdam market on 16 July: ING Group, Royal Dutch Shell and ArcelorMittal. These contracts, which will provide investors with more opportunities to trade the major Amsterdam blue chip stocks, are the first ever weekly options on individual shares in Europe.   The key attraction of weekly options is that they cost less to trade than longer-dated alternatives. International derivatives exchange Eurex plans to extend its offering of futures and options on European size indices provided by Stoxx. Four futures and four options based on the Euro Stoxx and the three corresponding sub-indices Euro Stoxx Large, Mid and Small will be tradable as from 28 July. Deutsche Börse has launched an updated version of Xetra which aims to improve the efficiency of the pan-European trading system. “Deutsche Börse has improved the market quality of Xetra yet again with Release 11.0. The functionality and speed of our trading system and the provision of liquidity will be improved,” says Rainer Riess, managing director of Xetra market development at Deutsche Börse. Singapore Exchange has launched Asia’s first dividend futures contract, the Nikkei Dividend Point Index Futures contract. Since its 17 June debut, the contract has achieved total volume of over JPY1.5bn as at 1.00am Singapore time today. Bid-ask spreads have been under two per cent for transactions of at least JPY60mn on both sides, and as low as 0.2 per cent for small-size transactions. Open interest stood at JPY600m as at 1.00am today.
