Ken Griffin’s Citadel, which became the world’s most profitable hedge fund in 2022 after raking in $16 billion, has boosted its international equities team with a series of senior hires in Hong and London, according to a report by Reuters.
The report says that LinkedIn profile updates show that at least five veteran investment and operational professionals have joined the $57 billion firm’s non-US equity investment team so far in 2023.
New recruits include Julian Ulmer, who joined Citadel’s Hong Kong office in March from Lighthouse Investment Partners to take a newly created role as head of Asia Equities Business
Torstone Technology, a SaaS platform for post-trade securities and derivatives processing, has appointed Sam Farrell as head of North America. Based in Toronto, Farrell will have oversight of all the US and Canadian operations for Torstone.
Prior to joining Torstone, Farrell spent the last 35 years in Canadian financial services and brings a wealth of experience to the role, having previously worked at RBC, TD Securities, Scotiabank, and most recently at Credit Suisse Canada as a senior operations leader.
Over his career, Farrell has led a number of significant initiatives, including the Credit Suisse migration to Torstone’s Cloud Platform.
GAM has appointed Chris Longworth, who joined the firm in 2010, as Head of GAM Systematic. In addition, Danny Dhingra, who has been with the company since 2016, is to join the systematic Core Macro team, and will report to Longworth.

Dhingra will provide the team with additional systematic experience and will contribute to the research on Core Macro as well as continuing to lead the GAM Systematic Commodities strategy as Investment Manager.
Guglielmo Mazzola, Head of Systematic Investments Specialists who joined GAM in 2022 will now also report directly to Longworth as part of the systematic team.

London-based hedge fund firm Marshall Wace has appointed Amit Rajpal as managing partner and portfolio manager. In his new role, Rajpal will report directly to Paul Marshal, co-founder of the firm, which began operations in 1997 managing $50 million and now manages around $64 billion.
Rajpal, who was previously Marshall Wace’s Asia CEO and portfolio manager of the firm’s global financials strategy based in Hong Kong, is moving to London for his new role.
