Shareholder and corporate governance law firm Grant & Eisenhofer has expanded its shareholder activism practice with the addition of Jonathan Oestreich, who joins as a director.
Under his direction, G&E will work with hedge funds, asset managers, and other investors seeking constructive change at public companies.
Oestreich (pictured), was most recently a managing director at Spotlight Advisors in New York, an advisory firm focussed on shareholder activism and proxy contests. Previously, he was a senior M&A banker and led the contested situations practice at Brown Brothers Harriman & Co. He started his career as an M&A, securities, and private funds
Trium Capital, a London-based alternative investment specialist, has hired industrials specialist Jonathan Ingram to manage a new developed market, industrials-focused equity market neutral strategy.
Ingram’s appointment is one of several recent high-profile hires for Trium, as the group prepares to unveil a broader proposition to investors.
The Global Industrials strategy will be run using a systematic ‘value catalyst approach’. It relies on deep fundamental analysis to identify price and value dislocations, in order to capture relative arbitrage opportunities within a sector – thereby ensuring low correlation to the market.
Ingram has worked on industrials-focused hedge fund strategies for 15 years,
MUFG Investor Services, the global asset servicing arm of Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group, has appointed Julie Jeffers-Flynn as Executive Director of business development.
Jeffers-Flynn will be based in New York and report to Michael Rucci, US President and CEO of MUFG Investor Services.
Jeffers-Flynn will support MUFG Investor Services’ mutual fund platform, overseeing the management and awareness for MUFG’s 40 Act fund services expertise to mutual funds, ETFs, UITs and CITs. Her appointment reinforces MUFG’s commitment to growing its investor services business and enhancing client offerings across all investment strategies, asset types and fund structures.

Sidley Austin has appointed Steven Kolyer as a partner in the firm’s Global Finance practice in New York.
Formerly a partner with Clifford Chance, Kolyer practice focuses on securitsations, with a particular emphasis in collateralised loan obligations (CLOs). His CLO practice includes both corporate loan CLOs and commercial real estate CLOs (CRE CLOs).
Kolyer has extensive experience representing issuers, managers and arrangers in corporate loan CLOs and in CRE CLOs, as well as in establishing debt investment funds and related financings. His experience includes conventional securities offerings, commercial lending transactions, and private fund structurings and formations as well as credit-linked
Matthias Warnig is to retire from his position as Chairman of the Board of Directors of aluminium producer UC RUSAL.
“I am confident that I can hand over to my successor a successfully developed company. My mission is completed,” says Warnig. “With the planned de-listing of the company from the OFAC’s SDN List, we stand in front of a new strategic development, also in the Board of Directors, therefore now is the optimal point in time for the chairmanship change”.

CQS has appointed former London Stock Exchange CEO Xavier Rolet as Chief Executive Officer. Sir Michael Hintze, CQS’ founder, will continue as CQS’ Senior Investment Officer and will become Group Executive Chairman. Rolet will begin as CEO on 14 January, 2019.

Following more than five and a half years at the helm, Dr Dermot F Smurfit has decided to step down from the board of ML Capital, effective 31 December 2018, at time he feels the company is set to embark in its next phase of growth.
