BlueBay Asset Management, a specialist manager of fixed income and alternative investments, has opened an office in Zurich, Switzerland. The new office allows BlueBay to leverage and expand existing client and strategic relationships as well as highlight BlueBay’s full capabilities as a next-generation fixed income manager to the Swiss market.   The office will be headed by Roberto Valsecchi Oliva, partner, head of sales Southern Europe. William Haney is transitioning to the role of chief executive officer at BI-SAM on 1 January from his current role as chief operating officer and head of the firm’s enterprise business. BI-SAM provides performance measurement and attribution, risk analytics and client reporting solutions to the global asset management industry.   Haney will succeed BI-SAM founder and CEO Alexandre Harkous, who will remain a board member and significant shareholder of the company. Highland Capital Management has appointed Carla Martin as managing director of national accounts for the independent broker dealer channel for Highland Capital Funds Distributor. Martin will report to Brad Ross, president of Highland Capital Funds Distributor.   Martin, together with Jennifer Ricci, will be responsible for leading Highland's national accounts effort in the independent broker dealer channel. International law firm Maples and Calder has appointed Michael Gagie to the role of managing partner of the firm's Singapore office and has promoted associate Jess Stock to of counsel. Gagie will relocate to Singapore when all necessary regulatory approvals are obtained.   Gagie joined Maples and Calder in 2010. He has developed an in-depth understanding of the Asian market and business culture during the eight years in which he has worked in Hong Kong, which included a period as managing partner of the Hong Kong office of another international law firm.   Gagie practises both BVI and Cayman Islands
Hedge fund law firm Kleinberg, Kaplan, Wolff & Cohen has appointed Jared R Gianatasio as senior counsel where he will focus his practice on investment funds and derivatives. He was previously a senior associate in the New York office of Shearman & Sterling where he practiced in the firm’s derivatives and investment funds practice.   Gianatasio follows the arrival, in August, of Joseph Iskowitz to the firm’s hedge fund practice.   Gianatasio has extensive experience representing market participants in the structuring and documentation of complex over-the-counter and exchange-traded derivatives transactions.   This includes developing, drafting and negotiating highly structured derivative
NewSmith Asset Management has appointed Michael Wahnich as head of risk. This follows Charles Hopkinson Woolley’s recent appointment as head of alternatives and product, and Guy Jackson as head of compliance.   Wahnich joined from International Asset Management where he was head of risk. He has extensive risk experience including at Brevan Howard, from 2006 to 2012, where he oversaw equity and systematic trading.   Jackson joins from Nutmeg where he was compliance officer and money laundering reporting officer. CedarKnight Partners has appointed Ranjit Atwal to head its investment management operations across the firm's international business. Denver-based hedge fund firm Arrowpoint Partners has appointed Minyoung Sohn as portfolio manager of the Meridian Equity Income Fund. Arrowpoint manages USD7 billion in assets for high-net-worth and institutional investors, and is the investment adviser to the Meridian Funds.   Sohn is a founding partner of Arrowpoint. Previously, Sohn served as an executive vice president and portfolio manager at Janus Capital, where he managed USD10 billion in assets for the Janus Growth and Income Fund (2004 to 2007) and the Janus Fundamental Equity Fund (2005 to 2007).
