SS&C Technologies, a provider of financial services software and software-enabled services, has appointed Bob Schwartz as chief technology officer. Schwartz will report to Norm Boulanger, the company’s president and chief operating officer.   Schwartz joins SS&C after serving as chief technology officer for SS&C’s fund administration business, SS&C GlobeOp. Prior to SS&C GlobeOp, Schwartz served as chief technology officer at Lehman Brothers. Baronsmead Partners, the financial risk insurance broker, has appointed Man Group’s Andrew Ducat as partner and head of client service. Baronsmead has also promoted David Heathfield to partner.   The moves come in anticipation of significant activity for Baronsmead in the year ahead. The introduction of a number of new professional indemnity regulations under AIFMD will increase demand for the firm’s services. AIMA, the global hedge fund association, has appointed a new chair and deputy chair of the AIMA Investor Steering Committee (ISC), which features leading institutional investors in hedge funds.  The new chair is Michelle McGregor-Smith, chief executive of British Airways Pension Investment Management, and the deputy chair is Kurt Silberstein, managing director, alternative investments at Ascent Private Capital Management, a subsidiary of US Bank.      McGregor-Smith is an adviser to the investment committee of the Health Foundation, a UK based charity, and a member of the UK Advisory Council of the CFA Institute. BCS, a trader of equities and derivatives on the Russian exchange, has appointed Gareth Johnson as senior trader to the London office, as of the beginning of October. The appointment highlights the sustained growth of BCS’s UK business which has made a number of key hires over the past 12 months.   Relocating to London, Johnson has joined BCS to start-up the equity trading arm of the international business.
