SS&C Technologies, a provider of financial services software and software-enabled services, has appointed Bob Schwartz as chief technology officer.
Schwartz will report to Norm Boulanger, the company’s president and chief operating officer.
Schwartz joins SS&C after serving as chief technology officer for SS&C’s fund administration business, SS&C GlobeOp. Prior to SS&C GlobeOp, Schwartz served as chief technology officer at Lehman Brothers. Previously, Schwartz worked for Bankers Trust building its derivatives technology environment.

Baronsmead Partners, the financial risk insurance broker, has appointed Man Group’s Andrew Ducat as partner and head of client service.
Baronsmead has also promoted David Heathfield to partner.
The moves come in anticipation of significant activity for Baronsmead in the year ahead. The introduction of a number of new professional indemnity regulations under AIFMD will increase demand for the firm’s services. Alternative investment managers will need to be up to code with the new requirements by July next year.

AIMA, the global hedge fund association, has appointed a new chair and deputy chair of the AIMA Investor Steering Committee (ISC), which features leading institutional investors in hedge funds.
The new chair is Michelle McGregor-Smith, chief executive of British Airways Pension Investment Management, and the deputy chair is Kurt Silberstein, managing director, alternative investments at Ascent Private Capital Management, a subsidiary of US Bank.
McGregor-Smith is an adviser to the investment committee of the Health Foundation, a UK based charity, and a member of the UK Advisory Council of the CFA Institute. A member of the ISC since
Alternative asset management company Tradex Global Advisors has appointed K Daniel Libby as senior portfolio manager.
Libby will play a significant role across all of Tradex's internally managed hedge funds and fund of hedge fund portfolios.

Commonfund, an institutional investment firm serving non-profits, pension funds and other institutional investors, has appointed current managing director Kristofer S Kwait as head of hedge fund research.
Kwait, a 12 year veteran of the firm, has had a significant influence on the hedge fund team. Mariner Investment Group has named Jonathan Loflin, formerly a senior portfolio manager and partner of BlueMountain Capital, to run a global derivatives relative-value portfolio on the Mariner Incubation Platform.
The platform is a multi-strategy mandate Mariner launched in April 2013 to be managed by leading investment talent sourced from the hedge fund industry.
The announcement follows the firm's recent appointments of Peter van Dooijeweert to manage a global equity volatility portfolio, Richard Rumble to manage a global emerging market equity portfolio, and Eric Pellicciaro to manage a global macro portfolio on this new platform.

BCS, a trader of equities and derivatives on the Russian exchange, has appointed Gareth Johnson as senior trader to the London office, as of the beginning of October.
The appointment highlights the sustained growth of BCS’s UK business which has made a number of key hires over the past 12 months.
Relocating to London, Johnson has joined BCS to start-up the equity trading arm of the international business. Johnson recently returned to the UK after living in Russia for seven years, where he was most recently senior equity trader at Troika Dialog.

Carne has appointed Laren Gillespie to its team of Cayman Islands independent fund directors.
Gillespie previously worked at Intertrust Fund Services in the Cayman Islands, where he provided independent fund directorship services to hedge funds, private equity funds and investment management structures.
Prior to joining Walkers Fund Services in the Cayman Islands (which was acquired by the Intertrust Group in July 2012) Gillespie worked with a private family office and an international financial services firm based in the Cayman Islands where he implemented risk monitoring programmes and was also a member of the investment committee.

CF Partners, an advisory, trading and investments firm specialising in renewables and energy, has appointed Chris Sherlock as chief operating officer.
Sherlock has over 29 years’ experience in asset management and investment banking during which time he has accumulated significant expertise in business management and operations.
He joins CF Partners from Adelante Asset Management, the emerging markets fund management group, where he was a director and COO since 2011. In 2005 he helped to established Fenician Capital Management, a long/short equity hedge fund business, where he served as partner and COO until 2011.
