Chicago Equity Partners has hired Brian Portnoy as Managing Director and Head of Alternatives and Strategic Initiatives.
In this newly formed role, Portnoy will report to the firm’s President, Patrick Lynch, and will help to lead the firm’s ongoing efforts in creating innovative solutions for the firm’s institutional clientele. The role will involve leveraging the firm’s internal equity and fixed income capabilities, as well as externally pursuing select partnerships. Previously, Portnoy served as Portfolio Manager and Director of Research at the Vestian Group, Associate Head of Hedge Fund Research at Mesirow Advanced Strategies, and Senior Analyst at Morningstar. Korn/Ferry International has appointed Allison Walker as a Senior Client Partner and Head of the firm’s Hedge Fund Practice.
Walker joins Korn/Ferry after four years at Arden Asset Management, LLC in New York, where she served as Managing Director and Chief Administrative Officer. As a Partner in the firm, she worked side-by-side Research, Risk, Operations, Legal & Compliance, Finance and Technology with a primary focus on people, process, strategy, communications, as well as client service and development.

PIMCO has hired three senior investment professionals as the firm continues to expand its alternatives platform.
Neal Reiner joined the firm as an Executive Vice President, Product Manager for Credit Alternative Strategies and Jennifer Strickland and Molly Hall joined as Executive Vice Presidents and Senior Alternatives Specialists. All three individuals are based in the firm’s Newport Beach office. PIMCO manages USD16 billion of client assets across hedge fund and distressed credit strategies.

The Supervisory Board of the European Commodity Clearing AG (ECC) has re-appointed Dr Thomas Siegl as a member of the Management Board of the clearing house.
The extension of his appointment was adopted by the Supervisory Board at the meeting on 21 June 2012 with effect from 1 May 2013 for a term of another three years.
Thomas Siegl was first appointed to the ECC Management Board in May 2010. In the capacity of the Chief Risk Officer (CRO) he is in charge of clearing and settlement, risk controlling and risk management at the clearing house. Peter Reitz (Chief Executive
Finisterre Capital, the long/short emerging market total return specialist, has appointed Darren Walker, formerly Managing Director at JPMorgan Chase as portfolio manager on the Finisterre Global Opportunity Fund.
Walker will report to Yan Swiderski, a Finisterre Partner and the lead Portfolio Manager on the Global Opportunity Fund.
At JP Morgan, Walker managed an emerging markets portfolio with an emphasis on sovereign debt, local rates and foreign exchange. He left JPMorgan Chase in March 2012 and started work at Finisterre this month.

Gottex Fund Management Holdings has announced a proposed share buyback by the company and the nominations of Dr Kevin Maloney and Dr William Landes to the Board.
In addition, Richard Leibovitch has announced his intention to retire after a transitional period and to take on a consulting role at Gottex.
The Board has approved management’s proposal for the company to buy back ordinary shares in the open market initially to cover the number of shares contemplated under the acquisition of Penjing Asset Management. Please note that the share buyback will be subject to acceptance via a shareholder resolution vote.

The newly elected Exchange Council of the European Energy Exchange (EEX) has elected Peter Heydecker, Head of Origination Gas & Power, Vitol SA, as its chairman.
The Exchange Council also elected Dr Bernhard Walter, EnBW Trading GmbH, Pierre Chevalier, DB Energie GmbH, and Dr Michael Redanz from MVV Trading GmbH as deputy chairmen with equal rights.
Albert Moser, professor and head of the Institute of Power Systems and Power Economics (IAEW) of RWTH Aachen, has also been elected to the council as a representative from the energy science.
Alexandre Voitenok has joined Acadian Asset Management as Senior Vice President and Portfolio Manager.
Reporting to David Kane, Director, Long/Short Equity Strategies, Voitenok will be responsible both for researching long/short strategies and managing long/short portfolios. He was previously a portfolio manager at Gartmore Investment Management.
Acadian has been managing long/short assets since 2002 and currently has around $1.2 billion of these assets under management across ten strategies. The firm’s most recent long/short strategy is the Global Leveraged Market Neutral Equity Portfolio, launched on November 1, 2010.
