Chicago Equity Partners has hired Brian Portnoy as Managing Director and Head of Alternatives and Strategic Initiatives. In this newly formed role, Portnoy will report to the firm’s President, Patrick Lynch, and will help to lead the firm’s ongoing efforts in creating innovative solutions for the firm’s institutional clientele. The role will involve leveraging the firm’s internal equity and fixed income capabilities, as well as externally pursuing select partnerships. The Supervisory Board of the European Commodity Clearing AG (ECC) has re-appointed Dr Thomas Siegl as a member of the Management Board of the clearing house. The extension of his appointment was adopted by the Supervisory Board at the meeting on 21 June 2012 with effect from 1 May 2013 for a term of another three years. Thomas Siegl was first appointed to the ECC Management Board in May 2010. Finisterre Capital, the long/short emerging market total return specialist, has appointed Darren Walker, formerly Managing Director at JPMorgan Chase as portfolio manager on the Finisterre Global Opportunity Fund. Walker will report to Yan Swiderski, a Finisterre Partner and the lead Portfolio Manager on the Global Opportunity Fund. At JP Morgan, Walker managed an emerging markets portfolio with an emphasis on sovereign debt, local rates and foreign exchange. Gottex Fund Management Holdings has announced a proposed share buyback by the company and the nominations of Dr Kevin Maloney and Dr William Landes to the Board. In addition, Richard Leibovitch has announced his intention to retire after a transitional period and to take on a consulting role at Gottex. The Board has approved management’s proposal for the company to buy back ordinary shares in the open market initially to cover the number of shares contemplated under the acquisition of Penjing Asset Management. The newly elected Exchange Council of the European Energy Exchange (EEX) has elected Peter Heydecker, Head of Origination Gas & Power, Vitol SA, as its chairman. The Exchange Council also elected Dr Bernhard Walter, EnBW Trading GmbH, Pierre Chevalier, DB Energie GmbH, and Dr Michael Redanz from MVV Trading GmbH as deputy chairmen with equal rights. Albert Moser, professor and head of the Institute of Power Systems and Power Economics (IAEW) of RWTH Aachen, has also been elected to the council as a representative from the energy science.  
Alexandre Voitenok has joined Acadian Asset Management as Senior Vice President and Portfolio Manager. Reporting to David Kane, Director, Long/Short Equity Strategies, Voitenok will be responsible both for researching long/short strategies and managing long/short portfolios. He was previously a portfolio manager at Gartmore Investment Management.   Acadian has been managing long/short assets since 2002 and currently has around $1.2 billion of these assets under management across ten strategies.
