XS Investments, a placement and advisory firm for alternative investments managers, has expanded its senior team with the appointment of Steven Tack and Josephine Defty.
Tack will join as partner with responsibilities for the Nordic region and Defty will join as director with responsibility for the UK.
Tack, who worked for Russell Investments for over 13 years in London, Johannesburg and Amsterdam, was most recently managing director heading the Amsterdam office with responsibility for Russell’s Northern European business. He will be based in Amsterdam.
Defty was previously vice president within the client services team at Pantheon Ventures, part of Russell
Infonic, a provider of software solutions to the funds of hedge fund industry, has added Ian Morley to its board of directors.
Morley (pictured), a UK-based alternative investment management industry veteran, joins Virginia Gambale, the new chair of the board, and non-company executive director Alexander Aebi.
The board is completed by Infonic company executive directors Tom Furrer, chief executive, and Roman Bargezi, head of engineering.

Alternative asset manager Cheyne Capital has appointed Tom Wiggin as head of UK marketing.
In this newly created position, Wiggin will be responsible for the marketing of Cheyne’s expanding range of products in the UK and will work alongside Max Nardulli who was recently appointed as head of international sales and distribution.
Wiggin joins Cheyne from Deutsche Bank in London where he was since 1998, most recently as managing director responsible for hedge fund relationships in Europe. Prior to this, he ran Deutsche Bank’s convertible bond business.

Future Capital Partners, the GBP6bn alternative investment boutique, has appointed Piers Denne to lead its business development strategy.
Denne (pictured) takes over an expanded head of sales and marketing role at Future Capital, with primary responsibility for implementing a new strategic focus for the firm’s business development campaigns.
His immediate task will be the marketing of the range of new product launches that the firm has lined up for Q1 2010.

Investment management firm AllianceBernstein has appointed Wayne Godlin as a member of its municipal bond portfolio management team.
Godlin, who has extensive investment expertise in both the investment grade and high yield municipal markets, will help design and manage the firm’s municipal investment strategies and customised product solutions to serve the needs of financial advisers and clients.

Marc Romano will join NewFinance Capital, the specialist fund of hedge funds wholly-owned by Schroders, as chief executive officer from 18 January 2010.
Romano joins from Credit Agricole Asset Management Alternative Investment where he was chief executive and head of multi-management business for the CAAM Group.
He will report to Marc Hotimsky, who will become executive chairman of NewFinance in addition to his responsibilities as chairman of the investment committee.
The strengthened management team at NewFinance will also include Benjamin Moute and David Mooney who have been appointed co-heads of investment.

Investment manager GLG Partners has appointed Sir John Gieve, the former deputy governor of the Bank of England, as a senior adviser.
Gieve (pictured) will be responsible for providing strategic advice to GLG on macro-economic and wider policy issues, particularly as they have an impact on the financial services sector and the regulatory environment.
His career includes 20 years at HM Treasury and culminating in three years at the Bank of England, where he was deputy governor responsible for financial stability and an ex officio member of the Monetary Policy Committee.

John C. Cushman III, chairman of the board of commercial real estate firm Cushman & Wakefield, has been named chairman of alternative asset investment manager Rock Creek Capital.

Cardano has appointed Claire Bowyer to its London-based team as head of legal.
In addition to managing the legal due diligence of proposed investments, Bowyer’s role will include advising on client contracts, negotiating documentation for derivative instruments and advising Cardano on all other legal aspects of its business.
