Chilton Investment, a manager of hedge funds and managed accounts, has named Jim Steinthal general counsel and member of Chilton’s executive committee and board of directors, effective 1 January 2010.
He will succeed Norm Champ, who is leaving the firm at year-end to join the Securities and Exchange Commission as associate regional director for examinations in its New York regional office.
Steinthal currently serves as managing director and general counsel of Chilton’s various hedge funds. Prior to joining the firm in 2000, he was associated with the law firm of Davis Polk & Wardwell for eight years.

WW Advisors, a UK-based real estate boutique providing investment and financing advisory services throughout Europe, has appointed Jonathan Edmunds as director to originate, analyse and execute deals.
Edmunds brings nine years of experience in real estate and a wealth of experience in the fields of consultancy, debt markets, corporate finance and direct investments.

Broadmark Asset Management has appointed Ricardo L. Cortez as president of global distribution.

Mapleridge Fund has elected Keith L. Day as chair and an independent member of its board of directors.
Mapleridge Capital, a systematic asset management firm, is the investment adviser for Mapleridge Fund.
Day brings Mapleridge Fund’s board of directors to four members.

BNY Mellon has appointed Brian Ruane to the new position of chief executive officer of alternative investment services.
BNY Mellon Alternative Investment Services is a hedge fund administrator with more than USD200bn in assets under administration.
Ruane (pictured) will report to Art Certosimo, senior executive vice president and head of broker-dealer/alternative investment services at BNY Mellon. He will continue to be based in New York City.
Ruane, who joined BNY Mellon in 1993, was most recently executive vice president and head of global client management North America. For the five years prior, he was head of financial institutions, overseeing the

David Barry has rejoined as head of sales and marketing for UK, Europe and the Middle East from the firm’s Dublin office.
John Higgins joins as head of sales and marketing for the Americas and is based in Chicago.
They both report to chairman Dermot Butler who oversees marketing and sales globally.

Otkritie, a Russian brokerage which has doubled in size in the last year, has appointed two Russia and CIS market figures to its executive team.
Former Troika Dialog UK chief executive Howard Snell (pictured) has joined Otkritie as a London-based director. He will assume responsibility for the firm’s UK business strategy, and will also have corporate and investor relations responsibilities.
Additionally, Nicholas Richmond has joined Otkritie as director and head of equity trading, based in Moscow.

Investment boutique Newscape Capital Group has continued its expansion with the appointment of another ex-Aberdeen Asset Management fixed income investment specialist.
Leonardo Da Costa joins Newscape’s core investment team in London as a portfolio manager where he will work alongside chief investment officer Derek Fulton, who he worked with previously at Aberdeen.
In this role he will conduct macroeconomic analysis as well as producing interest rate and yield curve views with specific responsibility for local currency emerging market debt investments. He will also contribute to the asset allocation process for Newscape’s discretionary fund management service.
