The international division of Close has appointed Mark Coxshall as director of risk. Coxshall will be based in Jersey and will be responsible for risk management in Guernsey, Jersey and the Isle of Man. Andrew Henton, head of offshore businesses for the Close asset management division, says: "Close is delighted to have Mark on board. Carne Global Financial Services, an independent adviser to the hedge fund and asset management industries, has appointed Justin Egan as managing director of the firm’s Luxembourg office. Egan (pictured) joined Carne in 2005 and has played a key role in advising some of Carne’s most prominent clients on product structuring, compliance, regulation, risk management and operations. Asset manager GLG Partners has appointed Gerard Griffin and Gerald Lucaussy of Tisbury Capital Management to lead GLG’s event driven strategies.  As part of the transaction, GLG Partners will become the investment manager of the Tisbury Liquid Event Master Fund, which will be renamed the GLG Tisbury Event Driven Fund. Dow Jones Indexes has expanded its executive team by promoting Jamie Farmer, former senior director global index operations and head of exchange relationships, to executive director. This role was created to further harmonise Dow Jones Indexes’ global business development and to ensure coordination of global business opportunities that result from the recent acquisition of 90 per cent of Dow Jones Indexes by the CME Group. Jason Mitchell is rejoining GLG Partners’ investment management team to focus on stock selection in the global environment and social governance area. After a number of years as a media and telecoms investor, Mitchell left GLG Partners in early 2008.  Since then, he has worked in the private water treatment industry. Thomas Lenz has resigned from all executive boards of the Eurex Group and also has stepped down from all managing director posts within Eurex. Lenz left the company at his own request. As a Eurex executive board member Lenz was responsible for operations. He has held numerous management positions within the group since 1997. Throgmorton, a UK accountancy and professional services provider to the hedge fund, private equity and corporate finance industries, has added two senior tax industry practitioners to its growing team. Raminder Chowdhary has joined as the firm’s head of VAT, while Stephen Smith has assumed the role of tax manager.   Chowdhary has joined from KPMG where he specialised in VAT matters relating to UK and European financial services. He was previously VAT manager at Vantis. Chowdhary started his career with Deloitte & Touche.   Smith joins Throgmorton from the accountancy firm Mazars where he has spent the last 12 years.
Octopus Investments has hired Thierry Serero to spearhead its fund management of European assets. The firm plans to launch a European absolute return fund in late spring, adding to its suite of absolute return solutions which includes the CF UK Equity Absolute Return Fund and the IM Octopus Alternative Strategies Fund. Serero (pictured) joins Octopus with over 20 years’ experience in fund management having worked at companies such as Fidelity Investments and New Star Investments. Serero has been working with Lothar Mentel, chief investment officer at Octopus, over the last couple of months, on planning and structuring the new fund.
Eze Castle Integration, a provider of IT services and technology solutions to hedge funds and alternative investment firms, has hired Timothy Kennedy as its vice president of North America sales.  Kennedy is an experienced technology and financial industry executive with 15 years of sales and sales management experience.  Prior to joining Eze Castle Integration, Kennedy was a senior vice president of sales and marketing with My Compliance Office, a provider of compliance operations management systems for investment advisers, hedge funds and broker dealers.
