Deutsche Bank has appointed Joe Cassidy as head of prime brokerage and derivatives clearing for global rates.
He joins from Nomura where he held several senior positions including global co-head of prime services, global chief operating officer of prime services, head of equity strategy and head of European corporate strategy.
Cassidy will join Deutsche Bank in May and will report to Fredrik Gentzel, head of credit portfolio management and prime brokerage for global rates and commodities.

Olivetree Securities, a UK based equities broker, has expanded its team with the appointment of two executives, Timothy Daniels and Siobhan McGeever.
Daniels will focus on the TMT sector working within the firm’s sector strategy group.
He has over 12 years experience in the industry, having joined from Panmure Gordon where he was director of equity sales.
Prior to this, Daniels was director of principal trading at Citigroup.
McGeever will work within the firm’s distribution group. She joins from Knight Capital Europe where she was vice president and sales trader for European and US cash equities.

The California State Teachers’ Retirement System is seeking a consultant to help select, monitor and assess hedge fund managers for a global macro strategy the fund will be undertaking.
The final filing date for proposals is 2pm PDT on 29 April 2010, with the consultant selection expected by early summer.
The selected firm will help Calstrs initiate, monitor and assess a global macro hedge fund strategy for its new absolute return asset class. The strategy will undergo an incubation period of not more than three years.
Calstrs staff will work with the consultant to select three to six hedge fund
Law firm Maples and Calder has hired Paul Dobbyn in Dublin to bolster the firm’s funds group.
Dobbyn (pictured), who joins on 1 May, will also lead the firm’s growing insolvency practice.
Dobbyn has been heavily involved in shaping the regulation of the industry in Ireland both at policy level and its implementation through legislation and regulation.
He is also one of Ireland’s most experienced and respected lawyers in the fields of insolvency and financial services.

Weston Capital Management has appointed Marcel Herbst as a member of the management team.
Herbst’s role will be to lead the global distribution efforts, work on creating strategic partnerships, and oversee the further development of the firm.
Herbst spent the previous eight years at Harcourt as managing director of the firm’s US presence as well as executive director of the Harcourt Group.
Harcourt is joint venture partner with Weston on the Weston Capital Partners Fund III, an incubation fund.
