Prime broker Direct Access Partners has formed a marketing practice.
The New York brokerage firm recruited a fundraising team from Channel Capital last month, adding four marketing professionals who have raised a combined USD1.5bn in recent years.
While other mini primes offer capital introduction, usually free of charge, Direct Access is thought to be the first to create a full-fledged marketing unit to help hedge fund clients raise capital. The firm will charge an undisclosed fee for the service.
The new team is led by Wall Street veteran George Lucaci (pictured), who joined Direct Access as a senior managing director.
EFX Prime Services, a division of First New York Securities, has appointed its hedge fund client service team.
The team is comprised of operations and trading experts from First New York Securities and new hires that complete the EFX Prime service offering.
Mario Maugeri has been named director of operations. He joined First New York in 1995 and oversees operations and manages relationships with all clearing firms.
Glen Mauriello is manager domestic operations. He joined First New York in 2007 and has 22 years’ experience most recently as director of clearing operations at LaBranche Financial Services.

Twin Capital Management has appointed Kevin S. Gahwyler as director of business development.
Gahwyler will lead the firm’s marketing and investor relations efforts.
“Mr. Gahwyler’s hire marks the first real institutional marketing effort of Twin in its long history,” says founder David J. Simon.
Prior to joining Twin, Gahwyler was the founder of KenCole Capital, an investment bank boutique specialising in hedge fund structures and marketing.
Prior to that Gahwyler served in several senior marketing roles, most recently at Pequot Capital Management as the product specialist and prior to that as the director of marketing at Sagamore Hill Capital Management.
NuWave Investment Management, an alternative investment manager, has appointed Craig Weynand as chief operating officer, responsible for overseeing all aspects of the firm’s day-to-day business operations.
Weynand joined NuWave one year ago as managing director, following nearly 20 years in the alternative investment industry at Morgan Stanley, Campbell, and Graham Capital Management.

Olivetree Securities, the UK based equities broker, has appointed Steve Wood as a non-executive director to its board.
Wood (pictured) will advise on the development of the company’s strategic direction, goals and objectives, as well as in scrutinising and challenging the company’s management, systems and controls, and risk management processes.
He will represent the company within both the buy and sell side communities.
Until very recently, Wood was global head of trading at Schroders Investment Management, which he joined in 2002 from JP Morgan. In addition to his responsibilities at Schroders he was chairman of the Investment Managers Association Trading
Campbell’s chief investment officer Kevin Heerdt is leaving the firm to pursue other interests.
Heerdt has directed Campbell’s research efforts in recent years and was supported by a team of mathematicians and scientists who will remain with the firm.
Going forward, management of the research and investment process at Campbell will be conducted by an investment committee chaired by Campbell’s vice chairman Bruce Cleland.
Other members of the investment committee will be research director Xiaohua Hu and chief operating officer Will Andrews.

Richard Addlestone has joined the funds and investment services team and is based in the Cayman Islands office. He has over 16 years experience and was previously a partner with Walkers in Cayman. He specialises in private equity and hedge funds, and also advises on captive insurance, reinsurance and general corporate issues.
Julian Black joins the banking and asset finance team in the Cayman Islands office. He was also formerly a partner at Walkers, and specialises in debt and equity financings as well as advising on
Private equity firm The Carlyle Group has appointed Michael “Mitch” Petrick as managing director and global head of credit alternatives and capital markets.
Petrick will also become a member of the firm’s operating committee.
Petrick, who joins Carlyle after a 20-year career at Morgan Stanley where he was managing director and global head of institutional sales and trading, will be based in New York and begin his duties in late March.

Oakley Alternative Investment Management has appointed hedge fund investor Teun Johnston as a portfolio manager.
Johnston was previously co-head of investments at Amundi AI, formerly known as Credit Agricole Asset Management Alternative Investments.
At Oakley, Johnston will work together with Nick Hannan, chief investment officer, and Christopher Parkinson, portfolio manager, to develop the scope of the Oakley investment function and business.
